As a Staff Engineer at Arkestro, you'll be embedded directly with Product and Design teams, working as a true product partner who deeply understands our customers' procurement challenges and builds solutions that transform how enterprises manage spend.You'll own end-to-end product features from conception to customer adoption, balancing technical excellence with iteration and customer feedback. This isn't just about writing great code — it's about understanding the "why" behind every feature, measuring its impact on customer outcomes, and continuously improving the product experience. You'll work closely with customers, analyze usage data, and make technical decisions that directly influence product success.The ideal candidate combines strong engineering fundamentals with genuine curiosity about our customers' workflows and pain points. This role is perfect for an engineer who thrives at the intersection of technology and product strategy, and who gets energized by seeing customers achieve breakthrough results with the software you build.ResponsibilitiesDesign and implement complex features and systems across our full-stack platformLead technical initiatives and drive projects from conception through deploymentCollaborate with Product Management, Design, and Data teams to translate business requirements into technical solutionsMentor junior and mid-level engineers through code reviews, pair programming, and technical guidanceContribute to architectural decisions and help establish technical standards and best practicesOptimize application performance, scalability, and reliabilityTake ownership of technical debt reduction and system improvementsParticipate in technical planning, estimation, and sprint commitmentsContribute to our engineering culture of quality, collaboration, and continuous learningParticipate in on-call rotation to ensure system reliabilityTechnologies and tools we use:Frontend: React, TypeScript, AntD, Jest + React Testing LibraryBackend: Ruby, Rails, Node, Postgres, Redis, Sidekiq Pro, RSpecFundamentals: Shell, SQL, config file and environment configurationWorkflow and Deployment: Github, AWS, DataDog, Jira, Confluence, Sentry, Code Climate, Pagerduty Slack, FellowRequired Qualifications10+ years building customer-facing applications with high impact, in collaboration with Product Management, UX and Data teams7+ years of Rails/Ruby experience with deep understanding of Rails conventions and best practices6+ years React, JavaScript/TypeScript, and modern frontend development4+ years working with AWS cloud services and deployment pipelinesExperience with relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred) and query optimizationStrong understanding of software architecture principles and design patternsExperience with testing frameworks and maintaining high test coverageDemonstrated ability to mentor other engineers and lead technical initiativesExcellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teamsBonus QualificationsExperience with Next.js and modern React patternsBackground with Redis, Sidekiq, or similar background job processing systemsFamiliarity with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)Experience with monitoring and observability tools (DataDog, Sentry)Previous startup experience, particularly in Series A-C companiesExperience working in fast-moving environments with on-call responsibilitiesPay Range$170,000—$220,000 USDArkestro is committed to providing our employees with a benefits package designed to give you the flexibility you need to ensure a healthy life/work balance.
