Our systems combine superconducting qubit technologies with integrated classical infrastructure, enabling cutting-edge research and real-world applications. The Internal Software team at Rigetti is responsible for supporting and accelerating the continual improvement of the company's quantum processor hardware: theory and design; fabrication; device characterization for process feedback; and calibration and deployment of our quantum processing units (QPUs) for benchmarking and application development. We own data infrastructure, web applications, and a framework for writing and rewriting calibration software in Python by teams of user/developers who specialize in experimental physics. We’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer who will drive improvements to data-intensive workflows, ensure platform reliability, and enable our engineers and scientists to build with speed, confidence, and clarity. Responsibilities Maintain and lead improvements to data-intensive services and applications written predominantly in Python Measure and optimize performance of user-facing workflows across our suite of applications Ensuring integrity of changing data via schema migrations, testing, and other mechanisms Improve data platform observability for all stakeholders Manage communications to users about service reliability, active priorities, and development roadmap Required Qualifications Advanced working knowledge of Python and its software development lifecycle Working knowledge of SQL and RDBMSs Experience with system architecture or domain modeling  Appetite for learning about user workflows and evaluating new approaches to building software Preferred Qualifications Experience or familiarity with: PostgreSQL, Python REST or RPC frameworks, Kafka or streaming technologies, AWS services (such as S3, RDS, EKS, and MSK), Palantir Foundry or other data warehouses Ability to collaboratively improve the team’s developer experience Passion for working with data and related systems
