The Role As a Software Engineer at Malama Health, you’ll work across mobile, backend, and infrastructure to build products used by members, care teams, and partners. You’ll take ownership of meaningful product areas and collaborate closely with product, clinical, and operations teammates to turn ideas into production systems. This role is well-suited for engineers who enjoy broad scope, moving quickly, and making pragmatic tradeoffs in a startup environment. What You’ll Do Design, build, and maintain member- and provider-facing applications Work across our stack, including: React Native for mobile experiences Ruby on Rails for APIs, business logic, and data models AWS for infrastructure, deployment, and scaling Take features from concept to production, with a strong focus on reliability and usability Collaborate with non-engineering partners to understand real-world needs and constraints Embrace AI-first development workflows to move faster and improve code quality Continuously improve the system through iteration, refactoring, and feedback from real users Contribute to technical decisions that balance speed, maintainability, and impact What We’re Looking For Experience building production systems with Ruby on Rails Experience developing mobile applications using React Native Comfort working across the stack and owning end-to-end outcomes An AI-forward mindset: you actively use AI tools to accelerate development and are excited about AI-native workflows Familiarity with AWS and DevOps concepts Strong product instincts and clear communication skills Ability to thrive in a fast-moving, low-bureaucracy environment Authorized to work and fully based in the United States Nice to Have Startup or early-stage company experience Experience in healthcare, consumer products, or regulated environments Background in building scalable, user-facing platforms Interest in preventive care, health equity, or mission-driven work Why Malama Health Real ownership and autonomy Work that directly impacts people’s health and lives A culture that values shipping, learning, and iteration Competitive compensation: $130k–$150k base + equity Health insurance + 401(k) Fully remote (US-based)
