We are excited to create health insurance plans you can actually use and are looking for values-aligned individuals to join our early stage team. Overview We’re looking for a motivated and impact-oriented Software Engineer (Backend) to join our small team of 5. Your primary focus will be building data pipelines and backend systems that automate and improve user workflows. You will be instrumental in ensuring seamless interactions from efficient patient support and operational processes to reliable payment processing, which are powered by the robust systems you design and implement. This work includes and is not limited to building automations for features such as provider notifications, patient support ticketing, provider payments workflows, and internal operations. As a key contributor, you will partner closely with internal stakeholders and external customers, translating insights into product requirements documents that directly drive your work. As a core contributor, you will: Work closely with mission-driven teammates to ship high-quality features Communicate technical ideas clearly and thoughtfully Embrace feedback from users and stakeholders to iterate quickly Contribute to a culture of learning and growth Tackle complex, ambiguous problems with curiosity and creativity You will help build the next generation of intelligent healthcare tools, contribute to projects that impact patients, providers, and teams, and work in an environment that values iteration and autonomy. Responsibilities Design & Development: Build scalable, reliable backend systems and AI-powered interfaces for healthcare, member services, and sales. You are expected to ship code on a daily basis alongside the rest of the team. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with teams across Operations, Engineering, and Sales to understand workflows, uncover pain points, define automation opportunities, and ensure alignment on goals and outcomes. Rapid Prototyping: Create and iterate on functional prototypes to test ideas and refine user experience. Maintainability & Scaling: Write clean, extensible code that supports both short-term MVPs and long-term growth. Qualifications We are looking for someone who has 5+ years of professional software experience Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate both technical thinking and interpersonal feedback Interest in the U.S. healthcare system and its complexities Systems thinking mindset with a focus on clear and performant data pipeline design and scalable backend systems Ability to prototype quickly and refactor for production Familiar with Python Bonus points Startup experience or worked on open source side projects Familiarity with Flask, FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, PostgreSQL, React, and/or Next.js Experience with building ETLs, scaling platforms that power backend APIs, and working with large datasets Experience in healthcare or with EHRs and vendor integrations
