You'll architect and develop high-performance APIs, integrate with financial services, and drive technical initiatives across our Laravel-based ecosystem. About the Role As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll be at the forefront of developing and maintaining our comprehensive lending platform that serves funding advisors, borrowers, and financial partners. Your day-to-day work will involve building robust RESTful APIs, optimizing database performance, integrating with third-party financial services, and leading architectural decisions that impact thousands of users. You'll work on critical features including deal management systems, automated underwriting workflows, real-time dashboards, and embeddable funding widgets. The role requires deep technical expertise combined with business acumen to navigate complex financial domain logic while ensuring system reliability and performance. Key Duties & Responsibilities • Design and develop high-performance RESTful APIs using PHP 8.4+ and Laravel 11/12 for financial applications and lending workflows • Architect and implement complex database schemas with MySQL/PostgreSQL, including query optimization and search indexing with OpenSearch/Elasticsearch • Build and maintain integrations with external financial services, payment processors, and third-party APIs (Intuit, lending platforms, communication services) • Lead framework upgrades, API versioning strategies, and system-wide architectural improvements including queue system migrations (Redis to SQS) • Develop authentication and authorization systems using Laravel Sanctum, implementing secure token-based access control and rate limiting • Optimize application performance through database tuning, caching strategies with Redis, and identifying/resolving system bottlenecks • Write comprehensive unit tests with PHPUnit, debug flaky tests, and maintain high code quality standards through peer reviews • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver complex multi-stage features for borrower platforms, funding advisor dashboards, and client-facing tools • Implement real-time features, webhook systems, and event-driven architecture to support dynamic lending workflows • Manage technical debt, conduct code reviews, and mentor junior developers on Laravel best practices and API design patterns • Deploy and monitor applications using Docker, AWS services, and CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions and Terraform • Participate in on-call rotation and troubleshoot production issues using monitoring tools like Sentry and New Relic Required Skills & Qualifications Technical Skills: - 5+ years of professional PHP development experience with strong expertise in PHP 8.0+ - 3+ years of hands-on Laravel framework experience (Laravel 9+ preferred, Laravel 11/12 highly preferred) - Extensive experience designing and building RESTful APIs and microservices architecture - Strong database skills with MySQL or PostgreSQL, including query optimization and complex schema design - Proficiency with Redis for caching and queue management - Experience with search technologies like Elasticsearch or OpenSearch - Solid understanding of authentication systems, API security, and rate limiting - Experience with Git, automated testing (PHPUnit), and CI/CD pipelines - Knowledge of AWS services and cloud deployment practices - Understanding of Docker containerization and development environments Experience & Education: - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience - 5-7 years of total software development experience with at least 3 years in senior-level roles - Proven track record of leading technical initiatives and system architecture decisions - Experience working in agile development environments and cross-functional teams Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills - Previous experience in fintech, lending, or financial services industries - Knowledge of payment processing systems and financial compliance requirements - Experience with JavaScript and modern frontend frameworks for full-stack capabilities - Familiarity with additional AWS services (SQS, Lambda, RDS) and infrastructure as code (Terraform) - Experience with monitoring and observability tools (New Relic, Sentry, DataDog) - Knowledge of additional databases or search technologies (Supabase, Apache Solr) - Experience with queue systems and job processing at scale - Understanding of AI/ML integrations and third-party API services (Deepgram, OpenAI, Claude) - Experience with mobile API development and webhook systems - Familiarity with business process automation and workflow builders Compensation Range: $130,000 - $180,000 annually
