We're looking for a Senior Back-End Engineer to join our software engineering team. As a Senior Back-End Engineer, you will be responsible for architecting, developing, and maintaining our web application. It's currently a full-stack Javascript application (React, Typescript, Next.js), though we plan to move off Next.js in the coming months. You will collaborate regularly with other teams to design and implement back-end solutions that are flexible, performant, and intuitive. This role reports directly to the VP of Engineering. Schedule: The engineering team is fully remote, and you will need to have at least 5 hours overlap with 8:30AM-5:30PM Pacific Time. There are two mandatory, teamwide meetings on Wednesday from 10:00AM-1:00PM Pacific Time. Responsibilities: This job requires a true self-starter. You will be expected to do requirements gathering, translate those requirements into technical work, and then implement that work on your own. Many things in the existing codebase need to be rewritten / productionized and we are a small team, so there is a massive opportunity for shaping the technical direction of the back-end architecture. Architect, develop, and maintain the back-end of our web application following best practices and coding standards Collaborate with other team members, including Design, Client Services, Internal Lab Technicians, and Front-End Engineering Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers Debug and troubleshoot issues, and provide timely resolutions Actively contribute to back-end technical discussions Qualifications: Minimum 8 years experience in back-end web development Strong understanding of software engineering principles and best practices, especially as it relates to API design and workflow automation Strong understanding of software development best practices such as version control, code reviews, automated testing, and CI/CD Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to debug complex issues Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment Nice to Haves: Experience with TypeScript Experience with AWS Experience in healthcare or other industries requiring regulatory compliance Important Traits: Kindness - egos don't have a place in our meetings 😊 Accountability - a high-trust environment means being able to own up to, debug, and resolve any issues that may happen Communication - there's a wide mix of scientific / medical / engineering knowledge on the team so being able to distill information in a way anyone can understand is important Notes: We're looking for a full-time employee, but this will begin as a 6-week contract-to-hire position.
