Overview Silverchair is expanding its Analytics team and seeking a Senior BI Developer with a strong background in Microsoft technologies to enhance our data analytics product offerings. This individual will be embedded within our Analytics team, bringing extensive experience in Power BI, Azure, and advanced report building. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in furthering our data analytics capabilities, ensuring robust, scalable reporting solutions that align with Silverchair's business objectives and building AI-assisted development practices in Power BI. As a Senior BI Developer, you will ensure that data analytics services are robust, scalable, and aligned with business operations. This role is instrumental in supporting key client-facing products and decision-making processes through data-driven insights. This senior-level position requires someone who can influence the shaping of analytics products in addition to building them, with the ability to grow into lead and architect capabilities over time. Essential Functions Advanced Business Intelligence Development: Create, deploy, and maintain complex Power BI reports and other artifacts using modern tooling and automation practices, ensuring scalable solutions that meet business requirements and deliver measurable value while shaping analytics product direction and execution strategies. Semantic Modeling: Design and maintain enterprise-grade semantic models with multiple dimension and fact tables, implementing accurate DAX calculations, optimizing performance for large datasets, and ensuring scalability across client implementations. Azure Platform Utilization: Leverage various Azure services including Synapse dedicated SQL pool, on-premise SQL databases, Azure SQL databases, and Synapse serverless SQL pool to build and maintain sophisticated data analytics solutions. Multi-Client Analytics Architecture: Work within existing enterprise Power BI infrastructure including standardized workspace environments, deployment pipelines, and version control processes. Contribute to maintaining and improving analytics platform standards and governance. Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with data engineering team, internal client-facing teams, and product stakeholders, including coordinating effectively with executive leadership when required. Project Documentation and Standards: Produce thorough documentation for analytics projects, maintaining alignment with platform, architecture, and code standards while supporting deployment automation and version control processes. Required Skills Power BI Mastery: 5+ years of experience developing and maintaining Power BI reports and semantic models, with demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal guidance. Modern Enterprise Power BI Development: Expertise with standard 3rd-party development tools (including Tabular Editor, DAX Studio) and proficiency with PBIP (Power BI project files) and TMDL (Tabular Model Definition Language) file formats. Power BI Infrastructure & DevOps: Experience working within enterprise Power BI environments including Git-based version control, automated deployment processes, and multi-workspace environments. Advanced Semantic Modeling: Expertise building complex semantic models with multiple dimension and fact tables, including composite models, role-playing dimensions, and advanced data modeling patterns for large-scale analytics platforms. Advanced Data Analytics Techniques: Deep understanding of Dimensional Modeling in Power BI, including proficiency with DAX and dataset performance optimization best practices for large, complex data models. Azure & Database Proficiency: Demonstrated expertise in Azure services relevant to data analytics, including various Azure SQL technologies and Synapse platforms, plus strong ability to understand, modify, and develop T-SQL queries. Professional Skills: Proven ability to work autonomously with strong initiative, comfortable in cross-functional and culturally diverse team environments, with clear communication skills for technical documentation and executive-level interactions. Desired Experience Paginated Report Building: Expertise in Power BI Report Builder, SQL Server Reporting Services, or other paginated report development tools. Microsoft Fabric & Workspace Management: Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric CLI & APIs, PowerShell automation for workspace provisioning, deployment pipeline configuration, and service principal authentication for automated processes.
