Our product is already in use by beta customers, giving this role direct exposure to real-world clinic needs and production systems. As a small, growing team, there’s significant room for growth and ownership, including equity compensation options—with flexibility to trade higher equity for a lower base salary—for candidates excited about long-term impact and startup upside. About the Role We’re looking for a hands-on QA Engineer who can both identify issues and fix the ones assigned to them. You’ll work closely with our CTO, CEO, and healthcare clinic users to triage issues as they arise—some you’ll resolve directly, others you’ll escalate based on scope, risk, and regulatory impact. Because we build software used by healthcare providers, this role requires experience working with health insurance workflows and HIPAA-regulated data. You’ll be expected to approach testing and development with a strong sense of data integrity, security, and compliance. This is a highly collaborative role for someone who is proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable operating in a fast-moving environment with real end-users. We encourage the use of AI coding tools to accelerate development, but you must read, understand, and validate every line of code committed—no blind copy-paste. Responsibilities Test new features and bug fixes thoroughly before release, with attention to healthcare and insurance workflows Identify, document, and report issues with clear reproduction steps and risk assessment (including compliance impact when applicable) Participate in triage discussions with leadership and clinic users to assess severity, scope, and urgency Fix assigned bugs and issues (small to medium complexity) while following security and HIPAA best practices Read and understand existing code to trace issues to their root cause Communicate directly with clinic users to gather reproduction steps and clarify reported issues Write and maintain test cases for critical workflows, including billing, insurance, and patient data handling Collaborate with the team to improve code quality, testability, and system reliability Our Tech Stack Language: TypeScript (full-stack) Framework: Next.js / React Styling: Tailwind CSS Database: PostgreSQL with Prisma ORM Deployment: AWS (serverless) Required QualificationsTechnical Skills Proficiency reading and writing TypeScript Experience with React Understanding of REST APIs and frontend/backend interactions Comfortable using Git for version control Strong debugging skills using browser developer tools Domain Experience (Strongly Preferred) Experience working with health insurance workflows, billing systems, claims, eligibility, or clearinghouses Familiarity with HIPAA requirements, including handling PHI, access controls, and data security considerations Experience (one of the following) 2+ years in a QA role with some development experience, preferably in healthcare or regulated software, OR 1+ years as a developer with a strong testing mindset and attention to detail, OR Bootcamp graduate or self-taught developer with demonstrable QA/testing projects and clear systems-thinking ability Soft Skills (Non-Negotiable) Self-starter mentality — You stay productive without hand-holding Over-communicator — You proactively share updates, flag blockers early, and keep stakeholders informed Strong written communication for clear, actionable bug reports Curiosity and persistence to dig into code and understand why something broke Receptive to guidance and comfortable asking clarifying questions Comfortable communicating directly with non-technical healthcare users Nice to Have Experience with Next.js Familiarity with Prisma or SQL databases Healthcare software experience (HIPAA compliance, PHI handling) Experience with automated testing frameworks Experience using AI coding assistants responsibly and effectively Education A degree in Computer Science or a related field is a plus, but we prioritize demonstrated skills and real-world experience. Bootcamp graduates and self-taught developers are welcome, provided they demonstrate strong systems thinking—understanding how components interact, how data flows through an application, and how changes in one area affect others.
