Our systems support real manufacturing operations and are expected to be reliable, maintainable, and cost-efficient. We are a small, engineering-focused consultancy working directly with technical stakeholders at global manufacturers. Role We are hiring a Principal Systems Engineer to take responsibility for the architecture and long-term integrity of the platforms we build. You will serve as the primary technical authority for these systems and will be expected to make high-impact architectural decisions, identify risks early, and establish patterns that support durable growth. This is a hands-on role requiring both system design and practical implementation. Initial work will focus on large-scale operational data systems within the automotive manufacturing sector. Responsibilities Architect production-grade data platforms on AWS Define data models and long-term schema strategy Establish infrastructure patterns using Terraform/Terragrunt Make cost-aware design decisions Evaluate scaling constraints and failure modes Review engineering work for architectural soundness Guide tooling and platform decisions Work directly with client technical teams when required Requirements Experience designing and operating production data systems Deep knowledge of AWS infrastructure Strong software engineering background, with Python as a primary language Excellent data modeling instincts Demonstrated ownership of significant architectural decisions Ability to operate effectively across both design and implementation Comfortable working with senior external engineers Candidates should be comfortable operating in environments where many technical decisions are consequential and must be made with incomplete information. Preferred Technical Experience Large-scale data processing frameworks (e.g., Spark, Databricks) Modern data warehouse platforms such as Snowflake Data pipeline design and orchestration High-throughput or time-series data systems Industrial, manufacturing, robotics, or IoT environments Infrastructure-as-code ownership Production ML platforms Japanese language ability is helpful but not required Location Remote within the United States Pacific or Mountain time preferred to support collaboration with Japan-based teams Occasional travel to Japan may be available Compensation & Benefits Base salary of $160,000–$200,000, depending on experience Performance bonus Health insurance 401(k)
