We help mid-market and enterprise organizations centralize and automate security and compliance programs with real-time visibility into risk, evidence, and controls. Backed by top-tier investors and scaling rapidly, we’re building a modern, data-driven platform that supports continuous compliance at scale. Our engineering team plays a critical role in shaping the reliability, performance, and extensibility of the Compyl platform as we grow. Role Summary We are seeking a Lead Software Engineer to own and scale Compyl’s back-end and ETL/data ingestion platform, while leading a small team of back-end engineers. This is a player-coach role: you will remain deeply hands-on in architecture and implementation, while providing technical direction, mentorship, and day-to-day guidance for a small, high-impact engineering team. You will be accountable for the reliability, performance, and evolution of the systems that power evidence collection, integrations, and compliance workflows across the product. This role is ideal for a senior engineer ready to step into people leadership without leaving the code. What You’ll Do Team Leadership Lead a small team of back-end engineers (technical guidance, code reviews, design feedback). Serve as the technical owner for the back-end and ETL domain. Set clear technical standards, patterns, and expectations for the team. Mentor engineers through pairing, reviews, and architectural discussions. Support sprint execution and help unblock delivery without micromanaging. Hands-On Engineering Build and maintain back-end services and APIs using .NET / C#. Develop and evolve ETL workflows using Azure-native services. Lead complex refactors and platform improvements as the system scales. Azure Data Platform Leadership Design ETL and ingestion pipelines using tools such as Azure Data Factory, Azure Functions, Event Grid, and Service Bus. Implement best practices around retries, idempotency, schema evolution, and error handling. Partner with Product and Security teams to translate compliance requirements into scalable data models. Cross-Functional Collaboration Collaborate closely with Product, Front-End, Infrastructure, and Customer Experience teams. Support production incidents and lead root-cause analysis and long-term remediation. Influence roadmap decisions through strong technical judgment and systems thinking. What We’re Looking For Experience 7+ years of professional software engineering experience with a strong back-end focus. Proven experience owning Azure-based back-end systems and ETL pipelines. Experience acting as a technical lead or domain owner for a critical platform area. Technical Skills (Microsoft Stack) Strong experience with C# / .NET for back-end services. Hands-on experience with Azure-native services, such as: Azure Functions, Azure Data Factory, Azure Service Bus / Event Grid, Azure SQL and/or other Azure data stores Experience building APIs and integrations with third-party systems. Strong understanding of cloud-native architecture, security, and scalability on Azure. Engineering Mindset Strong system design and architectural judgment. High bar for code quality, reliability, and maintainability. Comfortable operating in ambiguity and making pragmatic trade-offs. Ownership mindset, you care deeply about outcomes, not just implementations. Pay Range: $150,000 to $190,000. Geographic differentials may apply based on local market rates. This role includes an equity component and access to Compyl’s comprehensive benefits package, including health benefits, 401(k), short-term disability, family benefits, and multiple paid-leave policies designed to support you both personally and professionally.
