About the Role We are hiring a Lead Software Engineer to help lead a business-critical product team focused on core collaboration experiences. This role sits at the intersection of hands-on technical leadership and people leadership. You will stay close to the code, guide architectural decisions, and help a small team of engineers execute reliably in a fast-moving, sometimes chaotic environment. This is not a pure management role and not a senior IC-only seat. It is built for engineers who have stepped into leadership, enjoy ownership, and know how to keep teams motivated and shipping without burning them out, while remaining deeply involved in day-to-day development. We are hiring multiple Tech Leads for this role, each aligned to a core area of the platform. While every Tech Lead is expected to stay close to the code and lead execution, candidates may have a primary area of specialization: Backend Tech Lead Focused on APIs, services, data models, performance, reliability, and system architecture. Frontend Tech Lead Focused on complex user-facing experiences, state management, performance, and close collaboration with product and design. AI Tech Lead Focused on applied AI systems, model integration, orchestration, evaluation, and productionizing AI features inside a large-scale product. All Tech Leads are expected to partner closely with product and design, guide technical direction, mentor engineers, and help teams ship high-quality features in fast-moving environments. If you thrive when requirements are evolving, priorities shift, and the product still needs to get out the door, this role will feel familiar. What You Will Do Provide hands-on technical leadership to a product engineering team building customer-facing collaboration features Stay close to the code and architecture, guiding design decisions and technical tradeoffs under real constraints Lead execution for new features and enhancements, balancing speed, quality, and long-term maintainability Partner closely with Product and Design to translate evolving requirements into shippable solutions Mentor and support engineers, fostering accountability, focus, and sustainable delivery Own code quality through reviews, standards, and strong engineering fundamentals Help the team navigate ambiguity and changing priorities while maintaining momentum Support operational excellence by addressing technical debt, performance issues, and platform reliability What We Are Looking For 7+ years of professional software engineering experience in production environments Experience operating as a Tech Lead, Engineering Manager, or hybrid leadership role Strong hands-on background with modern backend systems, frontend platforms, or applied AI Deep experience leading technical execution in one primary domain while collaborating across disciplines Experience with Node.js, relational databases, and at least one modern frontend framework Comfort working in cloud-native environments Demonstrated ability to lead execution in fast-moving, low-process environments Strong technical judgment and pragmatic decision-making Clear communicator who collaborates well across engineering, product, and design Leadership style that balances urgency, team motivation, and long-term team health Nice to Have Experience working on collaborative or real-time systems Background in SaaS or high-growth product organizations Exposure to AI-enabled product features or platform-level systems Prior experience helping teams scale while systems and processes are still evolving This Role Is Not a Fit If You are looking for a purely people-management role without hands-on technical involvement You prefer highly mature, slow-moving environments with rigid process Your recent work has focused primarily on internal tooling without meaningful product ownership You are not comfortable operating in ambiguity or changing priorities Compensation and Benefits Competitive salary and equity package 401(k) program Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage Flexible PTO and paid holidays Paid parental leave Wellness and professional development stipends Additional employee support and well-being programs Why This Role Matters This role directly impacts how teams collaborate and get work done every day.
