We blend geospatial data, planning constraints, and modern AI workflows to help communities move faster on housing, economic development, and infrastructure decisions. The role You’ll be an early engineering hire who can comfortably move across the stack—shipping product in React/Next.js, building data-heavy backend services, and helping the team mature how we build and operate (DX, devops patterns, quality, evals). This role is ideal for someone who enjoys ambiguous problems, fast iteration, and collaborating closely with teammates and users. What you’ll do Build and ship end-to-end features across Next.js (frontend) and backend services (TypeScript and/or Python). Implement and improve geospatial workflows (PostGIS, spatial queries, parcel and address joins, overlays, buffering/distance constraints).Integrate mapping experiences (Mapbox / Google Maps / OpenStreetMap) and contribute to map-driven UX. Help develop AI-assisted product experiences (LLM-powered workflows, retrieval, tool use), including evaluation/quality loops. Improve developer experience and reliability: testing, observability, CI/CD, performance, and deployment hygiene. Collaborate with product/ops/users to translate real municipal workflows into delightful, repeatable product patterns. What we’re looking for Must-have traits Plays well with others: kind, direct, collaborative, and low ego. Passion for AI + a strong desire to learn quickly. Excited by early-stage startup work: you’ll own problems, not just tickets. Core technical strengths Frontend: strong with React + Next.js, able to implement clean UI quickly. Backend/data: enjoys data modeling, API design, and performance-minded implementation. Geospatial: experience with PostGIS and/or GIS concepts; comfortable working with maps and spatial datasets. Solid fundamentals in either TypeScript or Python (extra points for both). Bonus points (nice-to-have) GIS ecosystem familiarity: ArcGIS / ESRI concepts, formats, and workflows. UX/design thinking: you care about product polish and clarity. Gov / public sector experience (or genuine curiosity about how cities work). Deployment/product infrastructure familiarity: Vercel, AWS. Infrastructure-as-Code: Terraform, Pulumi, CloudFormation, or CDK. AI tooling experience: evals, model comparisons, prompt/versioning, or workflows built with tools like LangSmith; comfort with modern IDE copilots. What success looks like (first 60–90 days) You ship multiple end-to-end improvements to the product (chat + map UX and/or core data workflows). You take ownership of at least one “hairy” data/geospatial area (PostGIS queries, address/parcel matching, buffers/constraints, overlays). You help the team level up a practical quality loop (tests, evals, tracing/observability, deployment reliability). Why you might love it here Real-world problems with real impact: housing feasibility, planning constraints, economic development, and government operations. High autonomy, fast learning, and a team that values practical shipping over process theater. A stack that’s modern and fun - especially if you like maps + AI + product.
