We are seeking a Founding Backend Engineer who is not just a skilled technician, but a true builder and co-creator. In this role, you will be instrumental in architecting our core systems, making critical technology decisions, and establishing the engineering practices that will scale with us. This is a **high-equity position** designed for an individual who is ready to take on the challenges and rewards of building a company from scratch. The Role As a Founding Backend Engineer, you will own the entire backend stack, from initial architecture to production deployment. You will work directly with the founders to translate product vision into robust, scalable, and secure technical solutions. Your work will directly impact our ability to deliver a best-in-class AI product to our users. Your primary responsibilities will include designing and building the API layer that powers our applications, implementing and managing our cloud infrastructure on AWS, and integrating sophisticated AI capabilities, including image recognition models and agentic workflows. You will be expected to champion engineering excellence and establish a strong technical culture as the team grows. Core Responsibilities Design, build, and maintain a scalable and resilient backend architecture using Node.js and TypeScript Architect and manage cloud infrastructure on AWS using SST (Serverless Stack) for Infrastructure as Code Design, implement, and optimize Postgres database including schema design, query optimization, and data security Integrate and deploy cutting-edge AI models with a focus on image recognition Build and maintain Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipeline using vector databases, embedding models, and LLMs Develop and manage agentic APIs that enable autonomous, intelligent workflows Establish coding standards, review processes, and a culture of engineering excellence as a founding engineer Your Qualifications The ideal candidate is a seasoned backend engineer with a deep passion for AI and a proven track record of building and shipping complex systems. Below are the core requirements for this role. 3+ years of professional experience in backend software development Demonstrated expertise in Node.js and TypeScript for production-grade applications Extensive hands-on experience with AWS (Lambda, API Gateway, S3, EC2, RDS, etc.) Proven experience using SST (Serverless Stack) for serverless application deployment Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL including advanced queries, performance tuning, and administration Practical experience implementing RAG systems with vector databases (Pinecone, Weaviate, pgvector) Experience designing and building APIs for agentic systems and AI-driven automation Strong background in image recognition technologies and cutting-edge AI models (GPT-4, Claude, Gemini, Stable Diffusion, etc.) Ideal Candidate Profile Beyond the technical requirements, we are looking for a specific type of individual.
