Rehab therapy is a massive, but underserved market still running on manual workflows, phone calls, and fragmented systems. Pocket is replacing that infrastructure with vertically integrated AI. Our first product, insurance verification, is already live with clinics processing thousands of verifications per month. Now we’re expanding into a full suite of AI-powered capabilities that automate front-office workflows using LLM-based voice and text systems. About the Role You’ll work directly with the CTO, who brings 8+ years of experience building production-grade text and voice AI systems across startups and enterprise. This is a high-ownership role for someone who thrives in fast-paced environments and wants to ship systems that operate in the real world and not just prototypes. You’ll design and deploy production AI workflows across speech, clinical documentation, and payer interaction, owning everything from datasets and evaluation frameworks to deployment and reliability. Why Join Us This is a rare founding engineer role with meaningful ownership of our core AI stack Opportunity to build real production AI systems used by healthcare providers every day Fast-moving team shipping new capabilities quickly Early equity in a company tackling a massive, under-automated industry with significant near-term growth Key Responsibilities Build speech training & evaluation frameworks using prompting, fine-tuning, and retrieval-based techniques Implement document generation training & evaluation frameworks for clinical workflows Develop test harnesses and monitoring systems for critical AI workflows Continuously refine datasets and evaluation methodologies to improve model performance and real-world alignment Build automated pipelines for training, deployment, and monitoring of AI systems What We’re Looking For 5+ years of professional experience in applied ML, data science, or software engineering with at least 2 years in a startup environment Strong understanding of speech processing and synthesis fundamentals, including spectrograms, formant frequency analysis, and band-pass filtering Experience developing training & evaluation frameworks for LLM-based speech processing, including ASR, diarization, TTS, and speech-to-speech systems Experience deploying AI speech solutions in production settings using REST APIs, containerization and CI/CD pipelines Strong Python expertise Compensation & Benefits $150K per year base salary 0.75-1.0% equity (stock options) fully diluted at time of grant, vesting over 4 years with a 1 year cliff Flexible PTO Health insurance Location This is a fully remote position and the company is headquartered in New York City.
