Job poster Message About the job Help Great Teams Get Even Better At Pragmint, we embed alongside software and data engineering teams to help them unlock better outcomes through better engineering. We call it Co-Dev Coaching. It’s not about standing on the sidelines or handing over a slide deck. It’s about pairing, shaping, and shipping together to model what “better” looks like in practice. We’re looking for US-based experienced engineers who love building and teaching. You’ll work directly with client teams to identify bottlenecks, build technical momentum, and strengthen foundational practices like testing, continuous delivery, and observability. Your job isn’t just to improve the codebase, it’s to leave the team better than you found it. What You’ll Do Pair program with engineers to introduce better patterns, reduce friction, and increase team velocity. Coach teams on pragmatic improvements grounded in their context. Conduct technical assessments: review code, architecture, deployment practices, and team workflows. Help teams adopt and sustain foundational engineering practices like automated testing, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and modern observability. Collaborate with engineering leaders to shape team strategy and ensure changes stick after we’re gone. Occasionally (once or twice a year at most) travel to client sites or for internal off-sites to strengthen relationships and build a healthy rapport with your teammates. What You Bring 8+ years of experience in software or data engineering (web systems preferred: backend, platform, mobile, front-end, etc). Deep fluency with clean code, refactoring, testing, and deployment practices. Empathy, humility, and a coaching mindset. Comfort navigating ambiguity, earning trust, and driving improvement without formal authority. Experience working in diverse codebases, team cultures, and technical environments. Bonus points if you’ve internalized ideas from books like: Clean Code & Clean Architecture Trusted Advisor & Crucial Conversations Accelerate eXtreme Programming eXplained Working Effectively with Legacy Code Designing Data-Intensive Applications What This Job Isn't Enterprise Architect Project Manager Non-Technical Process Coach Platform Engineer Why This Role Matters Our clients don’t just need advice; they need support, momentum, and a partner they can trust in the trenches. As a Co-Dev Coach, you’re the heart of how we help teams improve in ways that stick. You’ll be part of a small, senior team that values curiosity, candor, and getting sustainable results.
