The Opportunity We are seeking a skilled and motivated Backend Developer with direct experience in the US healthcare technology sector. As a core member of our small but mighty engineering team, you will have direct ownership in building and scaling the robust, secure backend systems that power our lifesaving platform. You thrive in a startup environment where your work directly impacts product direction and patient care. Key Responsibilities Build Healthcare-Critical Systems: Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs using C# and ASP.NET Core that handle sensitive PHI and support clinical decision logic. Enable Interoperability: Develop secure RESTful APIs and microservices for integration with Electronic Health Records (EHRs), medical billing systems, and other healthcare data sources. Engineer Secure & Scalable Data Layers: Design, optimise, and manage SQL Server databases, write complex stored procedures, and ensure data integrity with a strong emphasis on security and performance. Own & Improve the Stack: Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps, deploy to Azure cloud services (App Service, Functions, SQL), and contribute to our microservices architecture. Champion Quality & Compliance: Write clean, tested code with a security-first mindset, adhering to HIPAA and relevant healthcare regulations. Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work directly with frontend developers, data scientists, and product leads to translate complex healthcare requirements into technical solutions. Requirements 2+ years of professional backend development experience. Direct hands-on experience in US healthcare tech. This is essential. You must have worked on systems involving EHR/EMR integration, medical billing/claims processing, PHI data handling, or population health analytics. A working understanding of HIPAA compliance in software development is required. Strong proficiency in our core stack: C#, ASP.NET Core, SQL Server, and RESTful API development. Experience with related tools such as Entity Framework or Dapper and Azure DevOps. A startup mindset: You are proactive, adaptable and take ownership. You communicate clearly and are excited by the challenge of building something meaningful from the ground up. Legal authorisation to work in the United States. Bonus Skills Experience with healthcare data standards (HL7 FHIR, CCDA). Knowledge of microservices architecture, message brokers (RabbitMQ, Azure Service Bus), or containerisation (Docker). Familiarity with other Azure services (Functions, Key Vault, Monitor). Curiosity or exposure to AI/ML concepts and their application in healthcare.
