Elion gives health-system leaders the clarity to adopt that technology with confidence. Backed by NEA, Max Ventures, Cedars-Sinai Health Ventures, TMV, and AlleyCorp, we pair rigorous AI-driven research with a healthcare-specific marketplace that maps thousands of vendors, products, and categories. Our goal: accelerate the next decade of clinical and operational innovation in healthcare. The Opportunity We're looking for an AI Engineer to bring our intelligence platform to the next level. You'll design the data systems and AI pipelines that power Elion's research and product recommendations - building robust LLM workflows, and creating the evaluation frameworks that ensure our AI delivers real value. If you love working in a tight-knit team, obsessing over data quality, and shipping AI-powered features that deliver measurable impact daily rather than monthly, you'll thrive here. Core Responsibilities Build and Optimize Data Pipelines – Design, implement, and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines that ingest, transform, and structure healthcare vendor and product data at scale. Develop LLM-Powered Features – Create and refine prompts, chains, and agent architectures that extract insights from unstructured healthcare data. Design Evaluation Frameworks – Build rigorous systems to measure AI output quality, track model performance, and catch regressions before they reach users. Experiment with Fine-Tuning – Identify opportunities to improve model performance through fine-tuning, and manage the data preparation and training workflows to get there. Architect Data Infrastructure – Build scalable, reliable systems for data storage, retrieval, and vector search that support our AI applications. Collaborate with Product & Research – Work closely with product managers and healthcare researchers to translate domain expertise into AI-powered features. Ensure Data Quality – Implement validation, monitoring, and alerting to maintain high data integrity across our platform. Elevate the Team – Share knowledge, improve tooling and workflows, and help shape our AI engineering culture and best practices. Ideal Background 4+ years building production data systems or ML infrastructure, with a track record of shipping high-impact features end-to-end. Strong Python skills with experience in data processing libraries (pandas, polars) and orchestration tools (Airflow, Dagster, Prefect, or similar). Hands-on experience with LLM APIs and tooling (OpenAI, Anthropic, LangChain, LlamaIndex, or similar). Solid foundation in SQL and database design (PostgreSQL, BigQuery, Snowflake, or similar). Experience building and maintaining data pipelines and ETL workflows. Familiarity with evaluation methodologies for AI systems—bonus if you've built evals from scratch. Exposure to fine-tuning workflows, embedding models, or vector databases is a plus. Strong product sense—ability to balance trade-offs between speed, quality, and user impact. Startup bias-for-action: strong drive to deliver user value today rather than tomorrow. Why Join Elion? Mission-Driven Impact: Play a key role in transforming healthcare by making it easier for organizations to discover, adopt, and manage cutting-edge solutions. Shape the Industry: Define how healthcare organizations evaluate and adopt AI and other transformative technologies, influencing decision-making at the highest levels. Learn at the Cutting Edge: Work at the forefront of AI, healthcare, and market strategy, gaining unique exposure to transformative technologies and the leaders driving them. High-Performance Team: Collaborate with a small, elite team of engineers, researchers, and product thinkers who move fast, hold a high bar, and care deeply about building great systems—and doing it the right way. Strong Backing: Join a well-funded company supported by leading healthcare investors, including NEA, Max Ventures, Cedars-Sinai Health Ventures, TMV, and AlleyCorp.
