We automate critical workflows that help patient advocates secure financial assistance for medical expenses. Our mission is to expand healthcare accessibility while ensuring the highest standards of security, compliance, and interoperability with leading EHR systems and exchanges. Role Summary: We are seeking an AI Engineer to build consumer-facing and internal products around language models in the healthcare and patient advocacy space. An ideal candidate will know more about machine learning than most software engineers, and more about software engineering than most data scientists. You will be building applications with typical constraints such as high availability and efficiency, while also incorporating the specific needs of ML workflows such as data collection, monitoring for model drift, and security concerns specific to AI such as prompt injection. We’re looking for a strong engineering generalist who is comfortable learning new libraries, languages, and frameworks as needed. Our broader technology stack includes Go, Rust, and Python; SQL and GCS-based object storage; and as both server-based and serverless hosting paradigms. In practice, this role is primarily focused on building and maintaining a Python + FastAPI API backed by Postgres and deployed on Google Cloud, so hands-on experience with these technologies is a strong plus. Key Responsibilities: Incorporate models from our research team into web APIs that are accessed by our consumer product, specifically: Zero-shot relevance classification of health records given information about a drug and medical condition. Medical question answering grounded by a patient’s medical history. Implement monitoring systems to detect and flag probable errors, model drift, and adversarial inputs. Implement data capture systems to collect future training data from our production systems. Collaborate with the research team on the design of these systems, and to make the data available to researchers and applied scientists. Collaborate with the application team to develop and support new customer-facing features that require AI interaction. All while strictly adhering to HIPAA and other relevant regulations. Required Qualifications: 5+ years experience working on server side web applications. Specific experience building and maintaining API servers is a plus. Demonstrated experience working with language models. PyTorch or other low-level AI library experience is a plus, but integrations with AI-based web APIs may be sufficient. Ability and willingness to “wear many hats” in a fast moving startup environment. Attention to detail with a security/safety mindset and a willingness to say “no” when appropriate. Healthcare is a highly regulated industry. AI is an emerging technology that poses both unique security issues and unique ethical concerns. Patient outcomes and regulatory compliance must be prioritized over other business concerns. “If you see something, say something.” Experience owning production systems end-to-end, including on-call support, incident response, or reliability improvements. Experience working in regulated environments (healthcare, finance, gov) is a plus. What We Offer: Competitive salary and benefits package. Base Salary $150,000 - $200,000 (depending on experience) A generous equity package Dental, vision, & health insurance Opportunities for professional growth in a collaborative, mission-driven environment. The chance to make a direct impact on healthcare accessibility and patient advocacy. How to Apply: Send your resume and a cover letter detailing your relevant experience and interest in the position to recruiting@cinnamon.health. We look forward to reviewing your application and exploring how you can help us advance healthcare through secure and innovative technology solutions.
