Pay From $57.20 an hour Job type Full-time   Full job description Job Overview: The State of Illinois is seeking a skilled Systems Programmer to support and manage the full lifecycle of the mainframe and midrange software stack. This role is not focused on traditional application development, but rather on maintaining the integrity, security, and performance of critical infrastructure through software patches, upgrades, configurations, and system optimization. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with z/OS, LPARs, IP configuration, system-level scheduling, and code base upgrades. This position plays a key role in ensuring stable and secure operation of the agency's technical environment. Key Responsibilities: Manage the software lifecycle across mainframe and distributed systems including applying patches, product upgrades, and performing regular system maintenance Coordinate and execute code upgrades for system-level software Oversee LPAR setup, customization, and management Maintain and troubleshoot IP configurations and network integration within system environments Schedule and perform regular upgrades and maintenance windows in coordination with internal teams Document system changes, configurations, and processes in compliance with state standards Collaborate with application teams and infrastructure teams to support operational needs Monitor performance, capacity, and system health, proactively addressing potential issues Ensure system configurations adhere to agency and security compliance standards Required Qualifications: 7+ years of experience in a Systems Programmer or Infrastructure Support role Strong understanding of z/OS, LPAR management, and mainframe operations Experience managing patches, maintenance, and upgrades for enterprise infrastructure software Working knowledge of IP networking as it applies to mainframe or midrange systems Familiarity with system utilities such as SMP/E, JCL, TSO/ISPF, and vendor software tools Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and coordination skills Ability to work independently and manage lifecycle tasks across multiple systems Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in a government or public sector environment Familiarity with State of Illinois systems or infrastructure Knowledge of CA/Broadcom, BMC, or IBM system management tools Experience with security compliance and audit support (e.g., RACF or other access controls) ITIL Foundation Certification or similar process-oriented background Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field Equivalent technical experience may be considered in place of a degree Job Type: Full-time Pay: From $57.20 per hour Expected hours: 40 per week Experience: CA/Broadcom, BMC, or IBM system management tools: 6 years (Required) security compliance and audit support (: 6 years (Required) z/OS, LPAR management, and mainframe operations: 6 years (Required) SMP/E, JCL, TSO/ISPF, and vendor software tools: 6 years (Required) Work Location: Remote   If you require alternative methods of application or screening, you must approach the employer directly to request this as Indeed is not responsible for the employer's application process
