As a fully remote, rapidly growing team, we're excited to invite top talent worldwide to join us in reshaping the future of retail security.About the Role As an R&D Software Engineer at Panoptyc, you'll thrive on experimentation and rapid iteration, building cutting-edge backend/Computer Vision applications, APIs, and ML/AI solutions. You'll be responsible for:Building and testing proof-of-concepts that may evolve into production systemsDesigning and implementing APIs and services using PythonBuilding computer vision machine learning applications, full-stack (from model architecture to back-end and front-end)Collaborating with a small, tight-knit R&D team to turn ideas into functional solutionsWriting comprehensive tests and documentation for your codeIterating quickly based on feedback and resultsThis role bridges technical implementation and strategic vision, requiring you to not only write excellent code but also understand the "why" behind our products.Requirements2-3+ years of experience as a Software EngineerStrong proficiency in the following: Python. We're framework agnostic.Strong preference to candidates with .NET and C# experienceExperience with Linux environments and shell scripting.Working knowledge of PostgreSQL or similar relational databasesFamiliarity with containerization (Docker) and cloud-based deploymentsExperience with RESTful API design and implementationBasic understanding of computer vision concepts and ML/AI frameworks is a plusExperience with Git and modern CI/CD pipelinesAbility to write clean, maintainable, and well-tested codeLow ego – if you don't know the answer, you ask questions. You aren't afraid of anybody knowing what you don't know.Honest – even when the truth isn't great, you speak it. If you had an off day, or your manager is wrong, you say so.Able to have at least 5 working hours overlapping US Eastern Standard Time.We're looking for a self-starter who thrives in ambiguous situations and can learn new technologies independently. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong problem-solving abilities, pays close attention to detail, and communicates honestly and directly. You should have a low ego—comfortable asking questions when needed—and maintain curiosity about emerging tech trends.
