The successful candidate will be an analyst, designer, and developer responsible for enhancing and maintaining HICAMS, a mission-critical, client-server PowerBuilder application with numerous Java and C#/.NET interfaces. This role requires a seasoned developer with practical experience across the full software development life cycle. The initial assignment will be to diagnose and resolve a complex Java compatibility issue to facilitate a server environment upgrade. Subsequent work will involve a significant PowerBuilder development project and ongoing system enhancements. Please note: This is a remote position, but the candidate must reside in North Carolina. Limited, occasional visits to the Raleigh, NC, area may be required. Essential Responsibilities: Diagnose and create a solution for a Java upgrade and compatibility issue within a Red Hat Linux server environment. Analyze, design, code, and implement enhancements for existing Java interfaces. Work with a team to replace approximately 100 spreadsheet formats with new data windows in PowerBuilder 10.0. Perform full life-cycle development, including requirements gathering, analysis, design, coding, unit/system testing, and implementation for bug fixes and other functional enhancements. Interface with SharePoint and other web-based solutions. Effectively communicate technical details and business processes to both IT and business users. Required Qualifications: 10+ years of experience as a PowerBuilder developer (PB10 or more recent versions). 10+ years of development experience in Java, particularly in solving library and compatibility issues. 10+ years of strong SQL skills (experience in any database platform is acceptable). Demonstrated experience working effectively in a remote software development environment. Strong analytical, conceptual, and technical skills. Proven written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work with a custom base-class and an independent, self-motivated work ethic. Preferred Qualifications: Development experience in C# and/or C++. Experience coding stored procedures and triggers. Experience developing .NET applications and APIs in a Visual Studio environment. Data conversion experience.
