📋 Description
• Lead engineering team to identify and scope well-defined tasks
• Execute on scope and be accountable for delivering on time with quality
• Design systems and make architectural decisions to support rapid growth of customers
• Mentor peers via 1:1s, design and code reviews, and continuous guidance
• Promote operational excellence: testing, monitoring, documentation, and on-call support
• Reduce technical debt, share knowledge, and invest in teammates’ health and happiness
• Optimize application performance and accelerate feature velocity
• Build and deploy microservices and distributed ETL pipelines
• Diagnose complex system behavior under global traffic patterns
• Facilitate continuous delivery at Mapbox and maintain high-traffic read APIs

🎯 Requirements
• 8-10+ years of experience building scalable high volume low latency backend services
• Proficiency in C++ and native AWS (CDK, ECS, Step Functions, Lambda, S3, RDS, CloudWatch, CloudFront)
• Familiarity with code versioning tools, such as GitHub
• Able to perform independently all the development tasks, based on designs and specs
• Self-starter who is communication and outcomes-oriented
• An empirical analytical approach: develop hypotheses, conduct spikes, and communicate findings
• Desire to share expertise through documentation, mentorship, pairing, and written and verbal discussion
• Desire to work with and lead individuals with diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences
• High quality mindset: write unit tests, proactively remedy defects and follow through to production
• Be on-call to support the health of services
• Nice to have: Experience in navigation and/or mapping domain
• Nice to have: Experience building backend services in NodeJS and TypeScript
• Work authorization note: Mapbox participates in E-Verify to confirm employee work authorization
