Python Terraform Go CI/CD Show more What You'll Do: As a Software Engineer on Avalara's cloud engineering team, you will design and deploy microservices to power next-generation tax compliance products. This role* is ideal for someone who excels in a fast-paced, AI-integrated environment and enjoys solving complex infrastructure and platform problems. You'll report to the Engineering Manager for AI and Automation, and partner with product and ML teams to deliver customer-facing features. This is a remote-friendly position with flexibility based on your location with the United States. (#LI-Remote) This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship What Your Responsibilities Will Be: You'll build microservices with modern frameworks and languages such as Go, Node.js, or Python, ensuring high availability and scale. You'll provision and secure AWS infrastructure (including EKS, Lambda, RDS, and IAM), using Terraform or CDK to manage it as code. You'll integrate and monitor generative-AI services with OpenAI, Bedrock, and LangChain to bring intelligent experiences into production. You'll also improve CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and participate in code reviews, architectural discussions, and cost/performance tuning. What You'll Need to be Successful: You have 5+ years of experience building and supporting backend systems in production. You've provisioned and secured workloads across AWS (e.g., VPC, IAM, SQS, DynamoDB) and other cloud platforms. You're fluent in at least one backend language like TypeScript, Go, or Python, and comfortable working across the stack when needed. You understand distributed systems: you think in terms of event-driven design, observability, data consistency, and resiliency. You've worked with or integrated AI APIs (e.g., OpenAI, Vertex, Bedrock), and understand important concepts like RAG, prompt orchestration, and token usage. You believe in writing maintainable, well-tested code and documenting architectural decisions.
