Job Description: Rigetti builds quantum computers to tackle the world’s most pressing challenges. Our systems combine superconducting qubit technologies with integrated classical infrastructure, enabling cutting-edge research and real-world applications.The Internal Software team at Rigetti is responsible for supporting and accelerating the continual improvement of the company's quantum processor hardware: theory and design; fabrication; device characterization for process feedback; and calibration and deployment of our quantum processing units (QPUs) for benchmarking and application development. We own data infrastructure, web applications, and a framework for writing and rewriting calibration software in Python by teams of user/developers who specialize in experimental physics. We’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer who will drive improvements to data-intensive workflows, ensure platform reliability, and enable our engineers and scientists to build with speed, confidence, and clarity.ResponsibilitiesMaintain and lead improvements to data-intensive services and applications written predominantly in PythonMeasure and optimize performance of user-facing workflows across our suite of applicationsEnsuring integrity of changing data via schema migrations, testing, and other mechanismsImprove data platform observability for all stakeholdersManage communications to users about service reliability, active priorities, and development roadmapRequired QualificationsAdvanced working knowledge of Python and its software development lifecycleWorking knowledge of SQL and RDBMSsExperience with system architecture or domain modeling Appetite for learning about user workflows and evaluating new approaches to building softwarePreferred QualificationsExperience or familiarity with: PostgreSQL, Python REST or RPC frameworks, Kafka or streaming technologies, AWS services (such as S3, RDS, EKS, and MSK), Palantir Foundry or other data warehousesAbility to collaboratively improve the team’s developer experiencePassion for working with data and related systemsAs engineering leaders, we value diversity and are committed to building a culture of inclusion to attract and engage innovative thinkers.
