We are looking for a skilled MS SQL Database Developer with a strong background in metadata management, ETL development, and Microsoft SQL Server. This role will be instrumental in improving enterprise-wide data transparency, movement, and governance. The ideal candidate will have deep experience developing data pipelines and managing metadata assets including data catalogs and data dictionaries to support technical teams and business users. RESPONSIBILITIES: • Design, develop, and optimize T-SQL queries, stored procedures, views, and functions within Microsoft SQL Server. • Design and implement robust ETL processes using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) or similar tools to support data ingestion, transformation, and loading across systems. • Build and maintain a centralized data catalog to document enterprise data assets, definitions, classifications, and usage. • Develop and manage a detailed data dictionary to define data elements, relationships, business rules, and data lineage. • Partner with business users, analysts, and data teams to capture metadata and define consistent naming conventions. • Integrate metadata from multiple sources using automation scripts or metadata extraction tools. • Maintain high standards of data quality, integrity, and security through documentation and governance. • Participate in code reviews, performance tuning, and troubleshooting database and ETL issues. • Support data governance efforts and ensure metadata and ETL alignment across systems. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field. • 3+ years of hands-on experience as a database developer using Microsoft SQL Server (2016 or later). • Strong expertise in T-SQL, indexing, performance tuning, and stored procedure development. • Proven experience developing ETL processes using SSIS, including data extraction, transformation, and loading. • Hands-on experience implementing and managing metadata repositories, including data catalogs and data dictionaries. • Solid understanding of data modeling, normalization, and relational database design. • Experience with SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), and integration with reporting or visualization tools. PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS: • Experience with data catalog tools such as Azure Purview, Alation, Collibra, or open-source metadata solutions. • Familiarity with data governance frameworks and principles (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK). • Experience scripting automation for ETL or metadata extraction (e.g., PowerShell, Python). • Exposure to cloud platforms like Azure SQL, Azure Data Factory, or SQL Managed Instance. SOFT SKILLS: • Strong communication and documentation skills — able to bridge technical and business audiences. • Detail-oriented, organized, and committed to data consistency and transparency. • Collaborative and self-motivated, with a strong sense of ownership and initiative.
