Job Description: You’re a hands-on engineering leader wanting to lead a small team. You’ll spend half of your time building and shipping—writing code, designing systems, and solving operational challenges—and half of your time leading—coaching engineers, setting priorities, and ensuring reliable delivery. We’re EngagedMD and we have a patient journey application used by more than 3 million users nationwide and internationally since its launch. We continue to see enormous growth and adoption from medical clinics across multiple markets. This is an exciting opportunity to join us in our mission to help carers carry on caring. You will have the opportunity to lead a small, talented team responsible for EngagedMD’s core services, integrations, and infrastructure. This fully remote role reports to our Director of Engineering and candidates are required to reside in the United States. This role requires legal authorization to work in the United States. EngagedMD is unable to sponsor current H1B visa holders for this role. What You’ll DoLead and contribute to the design, implementation, and maintenance of EngagedMD’s  backend services and infrastructureWrite and review code, spending about half of your time contributing technically to guide architectural quality and team developmentGuide architectural decisions around scalability, reliability, and observabilityManage and grow a small team of engineers through mentorship, feedback, and clear goal-settingOwn the service lifecycle—from design and deployment to monitoring and incident response.Partner cross-functionally with Product, Support, and Leadership to align technical work with business prioritiesServe as the internal and external expert on EngagedMD’s integration capabilities and collaborate with customer and partner project teams to support successful technical alignmentContinuously improve developer productivity, release processes, and infrastructure cost efficiencyJoin customer and partner calls to provide technical guidance and translate complex concepts for both technical and non-technical audiencesWhat You’ll Bring5+ years of software engineering experience, including backend or infrastructure work (Javascript, Python, Node, Go, or similar)2+ years of engineering leadership experience (formally or informally) on small, Agile teamsStrong understanding of cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure), CI/CD, monitoring, and automationExperience running and scaling production services (APIs, data pipelines, messaging systems, etc.)Excellent communication skills, with the ability to move seamlessly between technical deep dives and clear, audience-appropriate explanationsStrong organizational skills, able to balance detailed technical work with high-level planning and cross-functional collaborationA “player-coach” mindset: you lead by example, stay close to the code, and elevate those around youIt’s Also Nice If You…Have experience with Kubernetes, Terraform, or service mesh architecturesHave a background in incident management and SRE best practicesAre familiar with security and compliance for cloud systemsAre passionate about building positive, inclusive engineering culture in a small, growing teamHave at least a passing familiarity with the fertility industry and/or experience in healthtech with a focus on patient journey softwareHave successfully worked remotely with distributed teams in the pastWhat We OfferCompetitive compensation and equityMedical, dental, and vision coverage heavily subsidized by the companyOpen Paid Time OffPaid family and medical leaveGenerous paid holidays401(k) retirement savings plan EngagedMD is an equal opportunity employer.
