Summary: We are seeking a skilled Application Development Engineer with strong UI/UX design capabilities, hands-on healthcare application development experience, and working knowledge of HL7/FHIR interoperability standards. You will help build modern, user-friendly healthcare applications that support clinical workflows, operational efficiency, and secure data exchange. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: About the team: Our department includes full-stack developers, DBAs, and data engineers who are modernizing Curana Health’s IT platform and empowering business stakeholders with actionable insights. The culture emphasizes teaching, mentoring, balanced development, and building solutions with modern, AI-driven technologies. Responsibilities: Application Development Design, develop, and maintain applications using React, Angular, Vue, Next.js, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, and shadcn/ui). Implement reusable front-end components and scalable backend integrations. Ensure responsive, accessible, and performant application interfaces. UI/UX Design Translate business requirements into intuitive user experiences and wireframes. Conduct user research, workflow mapping, and usability testing. Apply best practices in user-centered design, accessibility, typography, and visual hierarchy. Healthcare & Interoperability Build and enhance features related to healthcare workflows (clinical, administrative, or patient-facing). Integrate applications with healthcare systems using HL7 v2, FHIR, REST APIs, or SMART on FHIR. Understand common data models such as patient demographics, encounters, observations, claims, and clinical documentation. Technical Delivery Collaborate with product, data, QA, and engineering teams to deliver high-quality releases. Troubleshoot production issues and support defect resolution. Participate in code reviews, technical planning, and documentation. Qualifications: Required 3–5 years of experience in application development (front-end or full-stack). Strong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript and at least one major UI framework (React, Angular, or Vue). Experience with design tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, or Sketch. Hands-on experience with HL7, FHIR, RESTful APIs, or EHR/EMR integrations. Strong understanding of healthcare workflows, HIPAA, and secure data handling. Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, agile methodologies. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail. Excellent communication skills with the ability to work across technical and non-technical teams. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Growth mindset and interest in learning emerging healthcare and interoperability technologies. Preferred Experience with back-end languages such as Node.js, Java, or Python. Exposure to cloud platforms (Azure) and serverless architectures. Familiarity with SMART on FHIR, OAuth2/OpenID Connect, and JWT. Understanding of healthcare standards such as CCD/C-CDA, EDI 270/271, and claims integrations. Experience with design systems, component libraries, and WCAG accessibility standards. Familiarity with Microsoft Azure provisioning and SQL Server/Data Bricks database setup. Understanding of compliance frameworks such as HIPAA, SOC 2, and related security measures. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
