      Description
      SFI is seeking a results-driven Backend Software Engineer to support a high-visibility federal program focused on modernizing data-driven processes that evaluate vehicle safety performance. This role supports the development and maintenance of scalable, secure web applications and APIs that power a mission-critical data platform used by government stakeholders and external partners.The ideal candidate is a collaborative engineer with strong backend development experience, a passion for clean and maintainable code, and comfort working in Agile and DevSecOps environments.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign and architect backend software applications supporting a modern, data-centric platformDevelop, maintain, and optimize scalable, high-performance applications using Node.jsBuild and maintain RESTful APIs and integrate with external data sourcesImplement reusable, modular components and support state management strategiesPerform unit and end-to-end testing using tools such as PostmanParticipate in peer code reviews, ensuring adherence to coding standards and best practicesCollaborate closely with senior engineers, UI/UX designers, QA teams, and stakeholders in an Agile/Scrum environmentDebug, troubleshoot, and resolve complex technical issuesContribute to technical documentation, including system design, APIs, and workflowsSupport CI/CD pipelines using  tools such as Jenkins and GitHub Actions
        Requirements
        EducationBachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related fieldORSix (6) years of equivalent professional experience in place of a degree Required QualificationsMinimum 3 years of experience as a backend Software EngineerProficiency with Node.js, RESTful APIs, GitHub, AWS, and API GatewayExperience working in Agile/Scrum and DevSecOps environmentsHands-on experience with Jira and ConfluenceStrong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skillsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsAbility to obtain and maintain a U.S. Public Trust clearance (fingerprinting required)Desired QualificationsExperience developing APIs using Node.js and ExpressFamiliarity with AWS services such as S3, Lambda, DynamoDB, and API GatewayExposure to Docker and container orchestration tools like KubernetesUnderstanding of application security best practices, including OAuth and JWTFamiliarity with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC)Prior experience supporting federal government projects  Additional Information Clearance: Must be authorized to work in the U.S. and able to obtain a Public Trust clearance.Background checks may include Criminal History, Education Verification, Employment Verification, Professional Certifications, and Credit History.
