SUMMARY:
As a Senior React Native Engineer, you’ll play a key role in rebuilding a large-scale UK news mobile application into a modern, video-led digital experience. You’ll design, build and optimise high-quality mobile features for both iOS and Android, contributing from discovery and architecture decisions through to delivery. Working within an Agile team, you’ll help shape scalable, performance-driven mobile experiences while leveraging AI-assisted development tools to enhance productivity and code quality.

WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING:
You will join our engineering team as a valued member, working closely with a collaborative, autonomous, cross-functional team. You will help with the following:

Contribute to the rebuild of a high-traffic news mobile application using React Native
Design and implement a scalable, component-based UI architecture
Build a video-led content experience focused on performance and usability
Integrate with third-party SDKs for content delivery
Work in an Agile environment (Scrum, two-week sprints)
Support mobile build and deployment processes (iOS & Android)
Collaborate with Product and Design to translate requirements into technical solutions
Debug, refactor and continuously improve the existing codebase
Leverage AI-assisted coding tools to increase efficiency and maintain high code standards
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
10+ years of software engineering experience
Strong commercial experience building React Native apps for both Android and iOS
Deep knowledge of TypeScript
Experience with Expo and mobile build/deployment workflows
Strong understanding of component-based architecture and state management
Experience consuming REST APIs and handling asynchronous data
Ability to write clean, testable, maintainable code
Strong debugging and refactoring skills
Proficiency with Git for version control
Experience working in Agile development environments
Strong English communication skills (written and verbal)
Comfortable working within a UK time-zone aligned team
AWESOME BUT NOT REQUIRED:
Experience working on high-traffic content or media applications
Exposure to AI-assisted development tools (e.g. Copilot-style workflows)
Experience integrating third-party content or storytelling SDKs
Previous experience contributing to early-stage rebuild or re-architecture projects
