Position Title: Principal Senior Software EngineerLocation: Remote (In the U.S) Other Considerations: U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident (Required) POSITION SUMMARY The Principal Senior Software Engineer serves as the technical leader responsible for architecting, designing and delivering the architectural framework of enterprise scale software systems and solutions that support the Department of Veteran Affairs. In this role you will demonstrate expertise in high-volume, high-availability systems and possess a strong command of various programming languages and development methodologies. This position is critical to ensuring architectural consistency, technical quality, and long-term scalability across enterprise software solutions. RESPONSIBILITIESTranslating program and project requirements into comprehensive architectural strategies that align with performance, schedule, and budgetary constraintsCollaborate closely with program managers and development teams to define system requirements, dictate design standards, and oversee the entire system/software development lifecycleWill balance the technical performance with VA standards, requirements, fiscal and scheduling constraintsEffective collaboration with stakeholders across engineering, project management, and executive leadershipMentor and lead development teams while fostering a culture of technical excellenceDrive adoption of modernization across legacy VA products and services.QUALIFICATIONSMaster’s Degree in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, or another engineering or technical discipline with an additional 10 years of relevant experience substituted for the required education. Minimum of 10 years of experience in software development, architecture design, and leading technical teams in complex projects Strong leadership in defining the technical vision, architecture, and engineering strategy and communicating to diverse technical teams. Expertise in scalable, secure, high-availability, high-performance systems and network architecturesProven experience in guiding full system/software development lifecyclesAbility to enforce best practices, coding standards, and design principles across development teamsSkilled in selecting appropriate platforms, tools, and frameworks to support project goalsAnalytical mindset with strong problem-solving abilities to address complex system-level challengesWORKING CONDITIONSStandard Business hours are Monday through Friday. Occasional extended or weekend hours may be required based on operational needs.
