About the RoleThis senior back-end engineer role is focused on designing, building, and operating core systems that power Orderful’s platform. You’ll take ownership of major initiatives, collaborate with experienced peers across engineering and product, and deliver solutions that are reliable, scalable, and maintainable. Success in this role requires strong technical judgment, clear communication, and the ability to make independent decisions while balancing strategic priorities with hands-on implementation.This role is open to remote candidates across the U.S. and Canada, with a strong preference for those in Pacific Time.Key ResponsibilitiesBuild & Operate Reliable Systems; Design, deploy, and support scalable APIs and services, with a strong focus on performance, reliability, and observabilityLead Technical Initiatives; Own the design and delivery of major back-end projects, contribute to architectural decisions, and help evolve the platformMaintain High Engineering Standards; Write high-quality, well-tested code, participate in rigorous code reviews, and continuously improve development and release practicesCollaborate with Peers; Work closely with other experienced engineers to solve complex problems, share context, and make thoughtful technical tradeoffsOwn Outcomes; Independently prioritize work, manage large initiatives end-to-end, and take responsibility for system health and business impactRequirementsExpert-level experience with Node.js, JavaScript, and TypeScriptStrong background in API design and developmentDeep understanding of relational and non-relational databasesExperience designing and operating distributed, event-driven systemsHands-on experience with messaging and eventing systems (e.g., RabbitMQ, Kafka)Strong grasp of software quality best practices, including testing, CI/CD, and documentationExperience building, deploying, and supporting production systems at scalePreferred QualificationsExperience with EDI or B2B data integrationsFamiliarity with NestJS and AWSExperience building systems at scale in fast-growing, high-throughput SaaS environmentsCompensation range: $205,000–$225,000 USD (U.S.) / $180,000–$210,000 CAD (Canada), based on experience and location, plus stock options and a broad benefits package.At Orderful, one of our core values is building a great community.
