About this role
At Clarity, Principal Engineers are technical leaders who raise the bar for how we build. You’ll shape some of our most important projects, from system design through to delivery, and play a critical role in ensuring the platform scales with our growth.
This is a role for someone who combines deep technical expertise with product intuition and leadership. You’ll design and guide complex systems, mentor teammates, represent engineering across the company, and leverage AI to accelerate how we build. Most importantly, you’ll take ownership of outcomes that have a lasting impact on schools, families, and the future of education.

What you’ll do
Lead development on Clarity’s most critical initiatives, designing and delivering systems that scale with our growth
Build and evolve data models, APIs, and services in Python, Django, and GraphQL
Guide architecture and technical decisions that ensure performance, reliability, and maintainability
Partner with product and design to shape solutions from discovery through delivery, influencing both user experience and system design
Leverage AI to accelerate engineering workflows and set standards for how Clarity uses AI in development
Establish and promote high standards of testing, code quality, and architecture across the team
Mentor and support engineers, helping them grow their technical and problem-solving skills
Represent engineering perspectives across the company and externally, contributing to Clarity’s reputation as an innovator in education technology
Drive cross-team improvements that enhance engineering velocity, product quality, and overall impact
Who you are
You bring 8+ years of experience building and scaling SaaS products, ideally in early to mid-stage startups
You have deep technical expertise across the stack and a track record of solving complex, high-impact problems
You’ve led teams or projects before and are excited to mentor, influence, and raise the bar for others
You balance pragmatism with long-term thinking, and you know when to prioritize velocity and when to invest in craft
You’re excited about AI’s potential to transform how engineers and products work
You care deeply about building technology that increases access to quality education
