About Us
Cognetic Technologies is a small software engineering firm, headquartered in San Diego, CA, providing software and systems engineering services to the U.S. Navy. Our team supports the Navy’s Personnel Accountability and Assessment System (PAAS), a mission-critical enterprise web application that provides personnel accountability, family assistance, case management, and reporting to ensure full accountability and crisis response across the Department of Defense. PAAS has been in continuous operation for 20 years and continues to evolve. Our work directly impacts service members and their families during critical events, and we take that responsibility seriously.
Description
We’re seeking a senior software engineer to support our small, experienced team. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys building new functionality while also improving and extending an established system. You’ll contribute across the stack, working both backend and frontend work as needed. You’ll be expected to participate in technical discussions, help shape solutions, and take ownership of delivering features without requiring heavily detail specifications. This is a good fit for someone who is self-motivated, communicates well, and is comfortable working in an established environment.
Duties:
Collaborate with a small team of designers and engineers to create new features and improve existing capabilities.
Reimplement legacy user interfaces using modern frontend technologies
Participate in technical discussions to consider and evaluate implementation approaches
Write clean, maintainable code and perform thoughtful code reviews
Work across backend and frontend components as needed
Communicate clearly with teammates and stakeholders, asking questions and driving work forward
Guide and mentor junior developers
Skills & Experience
10+ years of experience in web application development.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field/experience.
Ability to quickly learn and adapt in a complex, evolving codebase
Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
Experience with JSON web services, preferably in Java-based systems.
Experience with moder frontend development (React or similar)
Experience with SQL, preferably SQL Server.
Experience with and knowledge of the DoD/DoW is a plus.
Other Requirements:
U.S. Citizenship (mandatory)
Ability to obtain or maintain Secret Security Clearance (mandatory)
Ability to obtain or maintain CompTIA Security+ and Windows Server 2012+ certification (mandatory)
Work Environment:
Fully remote within the U.S. (with potential occasional travel to San Diego, CA)
