Learn more Job Details Skills Summary Title: Senior Software Engineer (IBM ITX SME) Location: Mostly remote  Onsite: Reston, VA (3-4 times per year) Duration: 12-month contract to hire Contact: Cdinnocenti@altaits.com PURPOSE The Senior Software Engineer performs complex analysis, design, and development for a highly visible, mission-critical Claims application. This role serves as the Technical Subject Matter Expert for the IBM Transformation Extender (ITX) product suite, balancing new development with high-priority production support. The successful candidate will design and optimize complex data mappings that support tens of thousands of users in a high-volume healthcare environment. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Map Design & Software Development (50%) Serve as the Lead SME for IBM Transformation Extender (ITX) and ITX Advanced (ITXA), focusing on complex map design and development. Enhance and maintain existing ITX mappings to accommodate constant business changes and evolving healthcare regulations. Design, code, and test critical application programs, ensuring seamless integration across multiple platforms, including Mainframe and Product teams. Develop and extend ITX Trust APIs and support various integration patterns required by cross-functional teams. Healthcare Compliance & Standards (25%) Utilize the ITX Healthcare Pack to implement industry-specific integrations for HL7, HIPAA, and FHIR standards. Manage schema design and data transformation optimization to ensure accurate and compliant healthcare data exchanges. Draft and execute structured automated test cases, specifically coordinating with testing teams to validate HIPAA/HL7 compliance. DevOps & Agile Operations (25%) Deploy mappings and code via modern CI/CD pipelines and DevOps standards. Participate strictly in the Agile process, including product scoping, roadmap discussions, and sprint ceremonies across multiple Agile teams. Provide high-level technical support for critical "trouble calls" and production issues with a strong sense of urgency. Mentor junior engineers and share specialized ITX knowledge to strengthen the overall delivery team. QUALIFICATIONS Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or IT. (In lieu of a degree, 4 additional years of relevant work experience is required. Total Experience: 10+ years of experience in software development and enterprise-level system architecture. SPECIFIC EXPERTISE: Minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience with the IBM ITX product suite. TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS (MUST-HAVES) IBM Transformation Extender (ITX/ITXA): Expert-level mapping and transformation skills. ITX Healthcare Pack: Proficient in HL7, HIPAA, and FHIR standards. Integration: Strong understanding of ITX Trust API and enterprise integration patterns. Agile/DevOps: Advanced knowledge of SDLC, CI/CD pipelines, and Agile protocols. SOFT SKILLS: Ability to work under pressure for high-visibility production support and communicate technical requirements to non-technical stakeholders. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAS) Advanced proficiency in complex system integration and data mapping optimization. Knowledge of programming languages such as Java, Python, or JavaScript to support integration efforts. Familiarity with database technologies (SQL, Oracle) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure). Expertise in test-first practices, including Test-Driven Development (TDD) and automated acceptance tests.
