About the role

We are looking for a highly capable senior full stack developer to drive the build and ongoing development of a core platform, taking hands-on ownership across front end, back end, APIs and cloud infrastructure.

A key part of this role is designing, building and operating payment workflows and integrations, including transaction handling, reconciliation and interaction with third-party payment providers. The role is deeply technical and execution-focused, with a strong emphasis on Python and Node.js development on AWS.

You will lead a small team of remote, part-time developers while remaining heavily hands-on, building features, shaping pipelines and ensuring steady forward momentum across the platform. This is a builder-first role operating under real delivery timelines and investor expectations, requiring a strong sense of ownership for outcomes.

Key responsibilities

Lead the ongoing build and evolution of the platform across front end, back end and APIs
Actively develop production code, with hands-on contribution forming the majority of the role
Design, build and maintain back-end services using Python and Node.js
Design and implement payment workflows, including transaction processing, state management and error handling
Integrate and operate third-party payment providers (for example card payments, wallets or other transaction services)
Ensure payment flows are secure, reliable and auditable
Develop and integrate APIs and core application logic
Build, deploy and operate services on AWS, including managing environments and pipelines
Contribute to front-end development and UI integration where required
Integrate third-party services, including data sources and AI APIs where needed
Lead a small team of remote, part-time developers, providing technical direction and day-to-day guidance
Define, structure and maintain backlogs, epics and priorities
Plan and coordinate sprint cycles, ensuring execution against agreed goals and timelines
Keep delivery moving at pace by unblocking issues and making pragmatic trade-offs
Operate under commercial and investor expectations, taking ownership for delivery outcomes
Communicate progress, risks and priorities clearly and directly
Maintain appropriate standards of code quality, testing, documentation and version control

75–80% hands-on full stack development

Python and Node.js back-end development
Payment workflow implementation and integration
API development and integration
Front-end contributions where needed
Building and maintaining AWS-based services and pipelines
10–15% backlog, sprint planning and coordination

Defining epics, stories and sprint scope
Sequencing work and coordinating execution across the team
5–10% technical decision-making and team guidance

Making pragmatic technical choices

Balancing speed with acceptable technical quality
The role remains heavily hands-on throughout.

Required skills and experience

Strong, demonstrable expertise in Python and Node.js in production environments
Solid experience developing and operating systems on AWS
Proven experience building and maintaining payment workflows and integrations
Experience working with third-party payment providers and transaction-based systems
Strong understanding of secure transaction handling, error states and reconciliation
Proven experience as a full stack developer working across front end, back end and APIs
Confidence designing and building scalable services and integrations
Experience leading or coordinating the work of other developers in small teams
Experience owning backlogs, epics and sprint execution
Comfortable delivering under time pressure and commercial constraints
Strong sense of ownership and accountability for outcomes
Able to work independently in a fully remote environment
Clear and direct communicator, particularly around progress and risk
Nice to have

Experience with fintech or regulated transaction environments
Familiarity with AI API integration (for example LLM-based services)
Experience building CI/CD pipelines or infrastructure-as-code on AWS
Experience with gaming or transaction-heavy consumer platforms

Independent contractor engagement on a day rate basis
