This position serves a vital role in ensuring that current and future air transportation systems, services, and capabilities are effectively verified and validated and ready for operational deployment into the National Airspace System (NAS). Duty domains include, but are not limited to: Verification & Validation Strategies and Practices Human Factors Surveillance NAS Enterprise Capabilities Automation & Agency Support Air‐to‐Ground Communications ATC Voice Communications Network Communications Navigation System Performance, Verification, and Monitoring Aeronautical Information Weather, and Flight Services Identify and analyze requirements, assess system designs and architectures, and plan and evaluate test activities to ensure that solutions meet the FAA’s operational needs Understand industry standard reference architectures. Knowledge of the NAS Enterprise Architecture framework and NAS subsystem functions and interfaces is desired Must have working knowledge of the FAA AMS lifecycle, National Airspace System, and SWIM Familiarity with aeronautical data and information is a plus Knowledge of networking technology in support of test and engineering lab infrastructure design, implementation and activities is desired Participate in technical and management reviews and provide technical input as required Prior experience interfacing with various stakeholders is essential Must possess strong analytical and research expertise to identify and investigate complex problems, and the ability to offer solutions Must be assertive, proactive, a quick learner, flexible, and work well in a team environment or independently Job Requirements Required Qualifications Required experience must include one of the following Knowledge and experience in analog and digital voice and data operation (signaling on 2-wire and 4-wire circuits), Communications equipment/system (configuration, integration, and troubleshooting support), Communication protocols and technologies (with experience in at least one of the following: RS-232, RS-422, Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM), Synchronous Optical Networking (SONET), General Purpose Interface Bus (GPIB), Transmission Control Protocol / Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN), and Frame Relay), Communications test equipment (with experience in at least one of the following: spectrum analyzers, signal generators, protocol analyzers, transmission impairment measurement sets, oscilloscopes, Radio Frequency (RF) power meters, power quality testers and communication system analyzers / testers), Router/switch network configuration and maintenance Knowledge and experience in TCP/IP protocol stack elements utilized in Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) communication systems (e.g. Session Initiation Protocol, Real Time Transport Protocol), general awareness of EUROCAE ED-137C and ED-138 standards, and their applicability to the specification, design, development, and test of FAA NAS IP voice communication systems. Python programming language coding and basic Linux. IPv4 and IPv6 networking principles, network impairment testing and reporting, GL Comm application experience (e.g., MAPS, Voice Quality Test (VQT), VQUAD), Cisco switch configuration and operation, Ground to ground telephony experience, Environmental Test Standards and Methods  (e.g., MIL-STD-810, Shock & Vibration Testing, EMI/EMC Testing, Humidity Testing, etc.),Power Test Methods (e.g. Inrush current, power factor, and total harmonic distortion). Knowledge and experience preferred in following: National Instruments Lab VIEW software application development, Environmental Test Standards and Methods (e.g., MIL-STD-810, Shock & Vibration Testing, EMI/EMC Testing, Humidity Testing, etc.),Power Test Methods (e.g. Inrush current, power factor, and total harmonic distortion). Knowledge and experience in FAA Flight Service Programs; Experience supporting T&E activities in accordance with the Acquisition Management System (AMS), the T&E Handbook and associated processes as directed by the FAA. This includes providing effective test services adhering to the WJHTC Quality Policy; Preparation, management and reporting of test scenarios and scripts. Knowledge and experience in FAA Weather Programs; Experience supporting programs using an Agile development framework; Experience supporting T&E Planning, Conduct and Reporting, and Test Bed, Facility and Lab Development, Maintenance and Management. Extensive knowledge and experience on secondary surveillance radars as well as experience working on DOD projects. Holds security clearance.   Job Requirements EDUCATION: A Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering (several disciplines are applicable) from a college or university with a degree curriculum accredited by ABET.  Must have (20+) years of relevant experience providing engineering support to technical and management personnel. Excellent writing and communication skills required. SALARY: $145-$155K depending on experience and education level.
