We are looking for a Search Engineer who is highly proficient in Java, Hibernate, and PostgreSQL, and who can also work fluently with LLMs (particularly Claude) to dramatically scale development speed. This role requires someone who is excited to use AI as a force multiplier — not as a novelty — and who can produce high-quality software at a pace impossible through traditional methods alone. This is a senior role with deep architectural responsibility, ownership over critical systems, and the opportunity to build technology with real-world impact. Responsibilities Build and scale Java/J2EE backend systems powering large-scale search modeling and data pipelines Develop high-performance data-access layers using Hibernate ORM Integrate LLM workflows (Claude, OpenAI) into engineering processes and backend logic Use Claude to dramatically scale code output, from thousands to tens of thousands of lines per week when needed Build embedding-driven pipelines, vector workflows, and retrieval systems Architect and maintain distributed crawling and large-data processing systems Optimize PostgreSQL for high throughput and large dataset performance Develop REST/JSON APIs and integrate with AWS services (EC2, RDS, S3) Contribute to UI components using JSF/PrimeFaces Improve reliability, performance, observability, and scalability across the stack Participate in an engineering availability rotation for mission-critical systems Write clean, testable code and proactively propose architectural improvements Required Qualifications Strong proficiency with Hibernate ORM 5+ years of Java/J2EE backend engineering Direct experience using LLMs (Claude, OpenAI) to generate production-quality code Ability to scale output significantly using AI — including multi-file, multi-module, architectural-level code generation Experience with embeddings, cosine similarity, vector pipelines, or other ML-adjacent retrieval systems PostgreSQL expertise, including performance tuning and handling very large datasets Experience deploying and operating systems on AWS Git/GitHub proficiency Strong debugging, architectural reasoning, and problem-solving skills Preferred Qualifications Experience with search/IR systems (Lucene, Elasticsearch, semantic search, vector search) Distributed crawling, ETL, or high-volume data flow experience Docker/Kubernetes CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI) Experience with JSF/PrimeFaces Experience building embedding-driven ranking or scoring pipelines What We’re Looking For High-output engineering mindset Ability to leverage Claude as a code multiplier, not just as a chat assistant Comfort in a fast-moving, iterative, startup environment Clear communication and reliable execution Ownership mentality and pride in delivering complete systems end-to-end Compensation & Benefits Salary: $140,000–$180,000 Equity: Stock options Remote: Fully remote Benefits: Health, dental, vision, and technology stipend How to Apply Please include: Your résumé Links to GitHub or code samples Pay: $140,000.00 - $180,000.00 per year Benefits: 401(k) Dental insurance Health insurance Vision insurance Work Location: Remote
