Cloud security Data validation Data Integration (Data management) Data quality monitoring Show more Title: Python Developer Work location: Remote with occasional visits (2-3 times a year) to 3311 Toledo Road Hyattsville, Maryland 20782 Salary: Depends on Experience Duration of contract: 2 years Background: National Health Interview Survey (NHIS), the nation’s primary source of general health information for the resident civilian noninstitutionalized population and has continuously collected data annually since 1957. Each year, NHIS interviews around 30,000 households, randomly selects one adult and one child (if any) per household and collects health information for around 27,000 sample adults and 9,000 sample children. Staff is responsible for checking the quality of survey data collected by Census interviewers, preparing survey file documentation, analysis of survey data and subsequent dissemination of analytic products, providing technical support to NHIS data users. Staff is also responsible for data receipt and control and preliminary data quality checks of the NHIS survey responses, editing, recoding, processing and transformation of the data, and the generation of public use and restricted use data files and documentation files. Branch staff work closely and collaboratively with other staff in the Division to develop the content, ensure the quality of the data and metadata and produce release artifacts for public dissemination on the NCHS website. In addition to NHIS, staff work on other surveys, such as Rapid Surveys System (RSS). RSS consists of surveys that are fielded several times each year using probability-based commercial online panels, enabling fast data collection with at least 4,000 adult participants each round of data collection. Job Responsibilities: Programming Skills: Proficiency in Python for application development, automation, and data processing. Some familiarity of R programming is preferred but not required. Database Management: Experience with MS SQL Server, including writing complex SQL queries, optimizing performance, and ensuring data integrity. Cloud Computing: Hands-on experience with developing, deploying, managing, and securing cloud applications. Data Engineering: Strong understanding of ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) pipelines, data integration, and workflow automation. Data Analysis & Processing: Ability to process complex datasets and generate actionable insights efficiently. Data Governance & Security: Knowledge of data compliance standards, governance best practices, and security protocols. Collaboration & Communication: Experience working with cross-functional teams, including IT support staff, analysts, and business stakeholders. DevOps & Deployment: Familiarity with version control (Git), CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps best practices. Adaptability & Learning: Ability to stay updated with emerging technologies, tools, and methodologies in cloud-based data environments.
