Role Summary We are seeking a Mid-Level DevOps / API Engineer to own and evolve our cloud infrastructure across AWS and Azure environments. This individual contributor role is central to our engineering team and encompasses CI/CD pipeline management, cloud security, video transcoding infrastructure, and emerging AI/ML workloads. You will be the primary steward of our deployment pipelines, server infrastructure, and system reliability. The ideal candidate is a self-directed problem solver who thrives in a small-team environment, takes ownership of infrastructure end-to-end, and is excited about integrating AI/ML capabilities into production systems. Required Technical Qualifications Cloud Infrastructure — AWS (Expert) · Deep, hands-on experience with the AWS ecosystem including EC2, RDS, S3, Lambda, CloudFront, Route 53, IAM, VPC, and Elastic Load Balancing. · Proven experience with AWS CodeDeploy, CodePipeline, and related deployment services. · Proficiency in AWS security best practices: IAM policies, Security Groups, NACLs, KMS encryption, and AWS Shield/WAF. · Experience managing and optimizing AWS cost allocation and resource utilization. · AWS certification(s) required (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect Associate, AWS DevOps Engineer Professional, or equivalent). Cloud Infrastructure — Azure (Working Knowledge) · Familiarity with Azure fundamentals including Azure VMs, Azure DevOps, Blob Storage, Azure Active Directory, and Azure Networking. · Ability to architect and manage multi-cloud deployments spanning AWS and Azure. · Experience with or willingness to lead AWS-to-Azure migration efforts for select workloads. CI/CD & Source Control · Expert knowledge of Bitbucket and Bitbucket Pipelines including custom runners, pipeline configuration, and branch-based deployment strategies. · Strong experience with Docker for containerized builds, testing, and deployment. · Ability to design, implement, and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines that support automated testing, staging, and production deployments. · Experience with infrastructure-as-code principles and tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, or ARM templates preferred). Server & Web Technologies · Expert knowledge of Apache, Nginx, and related web server technologies including SSL/TLS configuration, reverse proxy setups, and performance tuning. · Expert knowledge of PHP (8.x) and the Laravel framework in production environments, including queue workers, scheduled tasks, Artisan commands, and Horizon/Supervisor management. · Proficiency in Laravel API development including RESTful API design, middleware, authentication (Sanctum/Passport), and rate limiting. · Experience with PHP deployment workflows including Composer dependency management, environment configuration, OPcache tuning, and PHP-FPM optimization. · Ability to debug and troubleshoot Laravel applications in production, including log analysis, error tracking, and performance profiling. · Expert knowledge of React, Next.js, and Node.js application deployment, including SSR/SSG hosting strategies and CDN integration. Database Management · Expert knowledge of MySQL database administration including replication, backup strategies, performance tuning, and query optimization. · Demonstrated experience administering MySQL 8.x in production environments, including familiarity with new features such as window functions, CTEs, JSON enhancements, and the data dictionary. · Familiarity with database migration strategies, schema versioning, and data integrity validation. AI/ML Infrastructure · Experience managing GPU-based compute instances (AWS EC2 P/G instances, Azure NC/ND series) for inference and transcoding workloads. · Ability to build and maintain AI/ML pipelines including data ingestion, model serving, and monitoring. · Experience integrating AI/ML models into existing production applications and APIs. · Familiarity with containerized model serving (e.g., NVIDIA Triton, TensorFlow Serving, or similar). Video Transcoding Infrastructure · Ownership of the video transcoding pipeline including encoding, storage, delivery, and monitoring. · Experience with transcoding tools and services (FFmpeg, AWS Elemental MediaConvert, or equivalent). · Ability to optimize transcoding workflows for cost, quality, and throughput. Security Requirements · Expert knowledge of cloud software security including network segmentation, encryption at rest and in transit, secrets management, and vulnerability scanning. · Experience deploying and managing firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and DDoS mitigation. · Knowledge of compliance frameworks relevant to data privacy (SOC 2, GDPR awareness, or similar). · Proficiency in implementing backup and disaster recovery strategies with documented RTOs and RPOs. · Experience conducting security audits and implementing remediation plans. Core Responsibilities Infrastructure & Deployment · Build, test, and deploy software applications across development, staging, and production environments. · Manage migration of code and infrastructure between environments with full rollback capabilities. · Design and maintain virtualization and containerization strategies across AWS and Azure. · Own the full video transcoding infrastructure lifecycle—encoding, storage, delivery, and monitoring. · Install, configure, and manage GPU-based compute resources for AI/ML inference and transcoding workloads. Monitoring & Reliability · Implement and maintain system performance monitoring, alerting, and incident response processes. · Proactively identify and resolve bugs, bottlenecks, and system reliability issues. · Conduct ongoing appraisal of infrastructure health and recommend capacity planning adjustments. · Implement systems and processes to prevent recurring issues through root cause analysis. Security & Compliance · Deploy and manage security controls including firewalls, WAFs, network policies, and access controls. · Maintain backup, recovery, and business continuity systems. · Design and deploy secure network architectures and application security configurations. · Conduct regular security assessments and implement hardening measures. Automation & Optimization · Identify opportunities for automation to improve processes, reduce manual effort, and increase reliability. · Design, build, and maintain automation scripts and tools in relevant programming languages (Bash, Python, JavaScript). · Implement automated testing, diagnostics, and deployment workflows. · Continuously evaluate and upgrade systems, tools, and processes to optimize performance and cost. · Select and implement appropriate tools for specific infrastructure and operational tasks. AI/ML Operations · Build and maintain pipelines for AI/ML model deployment, serving, and monitoring in production. · Manage GPU instance lifecycle including provisioning, scaling, cost optimization, and decommissioning. · Collaborate with the development team to integrate AI capabilities into existing products and services. · Monitor model performance and infrastructure health for AI/ML workloads.
