We are looking for a high-agency Lead Front-End Engineer who obsesses over smooth mobile experiences and owns React Native like it’s their own product. You’ll lead the front-end architecture for a consumer app heavy on long-form audio/video.
Key Responsibilities
Own the entire React Native (Expo) codebase: architecture, scalability, maintainability, and cross-platform consistency.
Design and implement a shared design system—reusable components, theming, typography, spacing, and layout primitives that accelerate feature velocity.
Lead media player development: streaming audio/video playback, background mode, mini-player, offline support, resume, speed controls, and rock-solid reliability.
Drive performance and reliability: fast startup, smooth scrolling, stable playback, low memory/battery usage—even during hours-long sessions.
Own client-side state management, caching, offline-first patterns, and seamless API/data orchestration with backend services.
Translate Figma designs into pixel-perfect, accessible UIs while respecting iOS/Android platform conventions.
Set front-end standards: folder structure, component patterns, testing, linting, CI/CD, and performance budgets.
Debug tough platform-specific issues across devices, OS versions, and network conditions.
What We're Looking For
Experience: 5+ years in front-end/mobile development with 3+ years deep in React Native (Expo preferred). Proven track record shipping complex consumer apps to both app stores. Portfolio or live apps required.
Creative Vision: Sharp eye for motion, typography, and interaction details—you make “good” designs feel great in motion.
Multitasker: Comfortable leading front-end across multiple client projects or rapid internal builds with tight timelines.
Communication: Clear, confident, and collaborative—able to align with designers on feasibility, push back constructively, and unblock the team.
Organization & Detail: Obsessive about code structure, naming, performance budgets, and leaving no jank behind.
Workflow Understanding: Deep knowledge of modern React Native ecosystem (Expo, Reanimated, Gesture Handler, testing libraries, Hermes, etc.) and app store deployment.
Extreme Ownership Mentality: You treat crashes and playback stutters like personal failures and fix them fast.
AI Forward: Already using AI tools (Copilot, Cursor, ChatGPT) to accelerate prototyping and debugging.
“That Dog”: Hungry to ship flawless experiences, relentless about performance, and willing to go deep on a tricky playback bug when it matters.
