The role – Junior AI Engineer
Symbiotic Security is looking for a Junior AI Engineer to help us build and improve our AI‑powered security assistant for developers.
You will join our product‑engineering organisation with a strong security DNA and work at the intersection of LLMs, developer experience, and application security, with close mentoring from our current AI Engineer and the wider engineering team.

What you will work on
Contribute to the design and implementation of AI features that protect code generated by humans and by AI tools (Copilot, etc.), from prototype to first production versions.
Help generate and curate datasets to train and evaluate our AI assistant, including synthetic data creation and annotation with good / bad examples.
Implement and maintain evaluation and testing scripts for our AI features so we can measure quality and iterate.
Support PoC development: explore ideas with guidance from more senior engineers, then help bring successful ones into production with the engineering team.
Collaborate closely with Product & Engineering (CTO, Product Manager, AI engineer, security researchers) to refine problems and test solutions quickly.
Document your work and share learnings with the team.

What success looks like in your first year
3 months
You understand our product, users, and AI stack (Bedrock, LangChain, internal tooling).
You have contributed to at least one AI feature or PoC and shipped improvements under guidance.
You are fully integrated in our rituals and comfortable asking questions and challenging ideas.
6 months
You can take ownership of well‑scoped AI tasks (data pipelines, evaluation scripts, prompt iterations, etc.) and deliver them end‑to‑end with support when needed.
You have helped improve at least one evaluation pipeline and can interpret results to guide iterations.
You are a trusted partner for the AI Engineer and backend team on AI‑related developments.
12 months
You can drive small to medium AI projects more autonomously, from problem understanding to productionisation with the engineering team.
You are a reference for parts of our AI stack and help onboard new joiners on these topics.
You regularly bring new ideas, experiments, and improvements to our AI assistant and workflows.

AI stack: AWS Bedrock, LangChain, LLM proxy, internal observability to monitor latency and quality of AI calls
Database: PostgreSQL
Architecture: Monolithic, Hexagonal architecture, DDD being introduced
Cloud: AWS
Tests: 94% backend coverage, 100% business logic covered
Tools: Sentry, logs, traces, internal analytics
Satellite services: CLI tools & AI agents written in Python
Experimentation environment: internal servers with virtual machines to run medium‑size models and large‑scale experiments

We’re a multi‑disciplinary, product‑driven team, not working in silos. AI is considered a product engineering role, not a separate research lab.

Our methodology is a mix of Scrum and Shape Up:
2‑week cycles, dailies and retros
Short briefs & kick‑offs
High availability of the EM/CTO for decisions
Strong expectation of ownership, even for junior profiles, with support and mentoring

What we’re looking for – Junior profile
Core skills
Good foundations in Python and software engineering (clean code, testing, basic architecture concepts).
First experience with LLMs or applied ML (for example: RAG prototype, chatbot, content generation, evaluation scripts, etc.).
Basic understanding of how to evaluate AI systems (quality metrics, benchmarks, systematic testing).
Ability to learn quickly and to work with modern AI tooling (we use Bedrock, LangChain and internal evaluation/observability frameworks).

Nice to have
Experience with TypeScript / JavaScript and web backends.
Exposure to developer tools, security, or SaaS products.
Experience generating or curating datasets (including synthetic data).
Solid scientific background (engineering school or equivalent in CS / maths / applied physics, etc.).

Soft skills & mindset
High level of ownership for your scope: you follow through and ask for help early when needed.
Low‑ego, collaborative attitude: comfortable receiving and giving feedback.
Strong appetite for learning and tech watch, and ability to turn that into concrete experiments.
Motivation to grow in a small, ambitious team where responsibilities evolve quickly.
