Ardigent is supporting the evolution of the Air Force Justice Information System (AFJIS) under the ALEOS program—a mission-critical law enforcement and integrated defense system used by Security Forces worldwide. This system underpins investigations, case management, and operational decision-making across the Air Force’s global security mission. This is not just another IT program. It’s a platform that directly supports national security, operational readiness, and the safety of Airmen. About Ardigent At Ardigent, we don’t just “do Agile”—we live it. We are a consultancy specializing in Agile transformation and DevSecOps delivery across federal agencies. We bring modern product thinking, lean delivery, and technical excellence to government missions that matter. Our teams are known for turning complexity into clarity—and for making real, measurable impact. The Opportunity We are seeking an API Developer (Mid-Level) to join and support our growing team. In this role, you’ll design, build, enhance, and maintain secure, scalable APIs and integration services that enable AFJIS to exchange data reliably with external and enterprise systems. This role is especially critical because the ALEOS program includes defined integration requirements as a core part of system delivery, along with enhancements, sustainment, cloud support, and cybersecurity compliance. Our development team members are innovative problem-solvers who enjoy untangling complexity, building robust interfaces, and making systems talk to each other in ways that are elegant, secure, and dependable. You will collaborate closely with other developers, testers, product stakeholders, and system owners in a fast-moving Agile environment to deliver integration capabilities that directly support mission execution. The attached sample role also emphasizes building solutions from user requirements, integrating with customer systems, troubleshooting issues, and producing technical documentation, and this updated role carries those same expectations into an API and integration-focused context. Key Responsibilities API Development & Systems Integration Design, develop, test, and maintain RESTful APIs, backend services, and integration components supporting AFJIS mission workflows Build and support integrations with external systems and internal enterprise services; experience integrating with external systems is required for this role Develop reliable data exchange mechanisms using formats and protocols such as JSON, XML, REST, HTTP/S, and other service-based integration patterns Support interface versioning, error handling, retry logic, logging, and traceability for stable cross-system interoperability Application Development Perform object-oriented software development using Java and common Java enterprise frameworks and tools Build service-layer and API functionality using technologies such as Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Maven/Gradle, JPA/Hibernate, and related Java ecosystem tools Analyze functional and interface requirements and translate them into scalable, maintainable technical solutions Troubleshoot application code, integration failures, and data exchange issues across multiple environments Agile Delivery & Collaboration Work within a SAFe / Agile delivery environment supporting backlog development, sprint execution, releases, and mission-driven enhancements Collaborate closely with product owners, business analysts, QA engineers, and other developers to refine requirements and deliver working software in short iterations Participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to technical design discussions, estimation, and solution planning Quality, Testing & DevSecOps Create and execute unit, integration, and API tests to ensure code meets acceptance criteria with minimal defects Use tools such as JUnit, Mockito, Postman, Swagger / OpenAPI, and similar frameworks to validate service behavior and contracts Support CI/CD pipelines and automated build/test practices using tools such as Git, GitLab or GitHub, Jenkins, and related DevSecOps tooling Contribute to secure coding, code review, automated scanning, and vulnerability remediation in support of cybersecurity compliance requirements under the program Documentation & Communication Produce clear technical documentation for APIs, integration patterns, interface specifications, and support materials Communicate technical and non-technical information effectively to stakeholders, teammates, and customer representatives Provide practical, efficient solutions to technical issues and support root-cause analysis for production or downstream integration problems Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, information systems, or comparable work experience 6+ years of software development experience, including backend or service-layer development 5+ years of hands-on Java development experience 2+ years of direct API development and systems integration experience Required: demonstrated experience integrating applications with external systems, third-party services, or enterprise platforms Experience with Spring Boot, REST API design, and backend service development Experience with relational databases such as Oracle, PostgreSQL, or SQL Server, including SQL and data modeling fundamentals Understanding of application servers, web services architecture, deployment procedures, and secure API design Experience writing and maintaining unit and integration tests Experience using JIRA and Git-based source control tools Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills US Citizenship is required Being located in the DC Metro area is highly preferred.
