Full Job Description
Overview:

The Data Engineer I is a key technical resource for Alterman’s data pipelines and helps contextualize and provide easy access to data for the entire organization. The Data Engineer I designs, builds, and deploys data solutions that capture, explore, transform, and utilize data to support and drive business initiatives.


Essential Functions:

1. 90%

Constructs new data pipelines and optimizes existing ones to ensure resiliency and scalability.
Designs data models for optimized reporting.
Creates complex views specific for various operations groups.
Creates Extract, Load, Transform (ELT) jobs from various data sources.
Assists data team with data initiatives and automation needs.
Maintains and enforces best practices with regards to data source control and queries.
Contributes to data catalogs and dictionaries.
Tests and debugs ELT functions.
2. Performs other duties as assigned. 10%

Education and Experience:

2 years of related experience engineering and operationalizing data pipelines within a cloud environment required.
2 years of related experience with ELT and Data Warehousing required.
Experience with Azure DevOps and Snowflake required.
Experience with SQL required; Python preferred for light transformations and automation.
Experience with data engineering best practices for development required, including query optimization, version control, code reviews and documentation.
Skills/Abilities:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to translate the stories found in the data.
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
Statistical modeling and/or data visualizations skills preferred.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, or other related software.
Proficient in SQL and/or Python.
Familiarity with data quality, lineage, and cataloging practices.
Awareness of data governance and security (RBAC/roles, object tags, masking, RAPS).
Able to learn corporate processes, standards, and technologies.
Able to work adaptively and collaboratively.
Able to cross-train with other system owners and administrators to ensure adequate coverage across platforms.

Office environment.
Physical Demands:

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Manual dexterity associated with computer data entry required.
