You’ll join a diverse team of epidemiologists, engineers, data scientists,front-line disease controllers, and national security practitioners. We are deploying technology todeliver biothreat intelligence to more rapidly detect, characterize, and attribute emergingbiological threats, including naturally occurring and biologically engineered threats.You’ll own the vision for expanding our AI capabilities, refine our AI architecture, and developforecasting and anomaly-detection models that directly inform critical health and defensedecisions. We value bias toward action, collaboration, continuous learning, empathy, andmaking a real-world impact.ResponsibilitiesDevelop and refine approaches to anomaly detection, correlation, forecasting, andmodeling/simulation for biological threatsExplore both traditional and novel techniques to reveal hidden patterns, potentially withsome of the following techniques:
Use statistical models like ARIMA and Prophet to establish clear baselines fortrend and seasonalityExperiment with deep learning models like LSTMs or TCNs to pick up on subtlechanges in time series dataDetect anomalies that could indicate emerging disease clusterQuantify uncertainty so our partners can make confident, risk-aware decisionsDevelop RAG and Agentic AI systems for Biological Threat Detection
Fine-tune, test, and deploy large language models (LLMs)Design and implement retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines fordomain-specific applicationsDesign and implement agentic AI systems to flexibly orchestrate threat-specificAI/ML tool chainsOptimize prompts and perform context engineering to improve model accuracyand performanceUse evaluation frameworks to benchmark model accuracy and performanceBuild pipelines to ingest, clean, and validate structured and unstructured data sources(sequencing files, sensor feeds, lab reports, case and hospitalization data), ensuringhigh-quality inputs for modelsContainerize models and services with Docker and Kubernetes, automate deployment, and monitor model performanceCollaborate with Epidemiologists to build domain specific LLM promptsWork directly with customers to understand their problem space, deploy AI/ML tools, and iterate with them to ensure their mission needs are metExpect to interact with customers to provide engineering solutions with potential travel to on-site interactions with the customerExperience & QualificationsBachelor’s or Master’s in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or related field3+ years building, working with, and shipping ML models in production5+ years general software development experienceStrong understanding and experience in data modeling, algorithms, and datatransformation techniquesStrong Python skillsSolid foundation in statistics, probability, and time-series analysisExperience with relational and vector databasesFamiliarity with AWS and/or GCPComfortable with Docker, Kubernetes, Git, CI/CD pipelines, and RESTful APIsExperience with RAG architecture and LLM integrationsCurious, proactive, and collaborativeExcellent communicator, able to explain technical concepts to diverse audiencesWillingness to embrace moving fast, being insatiably curious, embracing uncertainty andhaving a personal desire to improve other peoples’ livesSecurity clearance-eligibleWHO WE AREThe team supports remote-first employment and candidates from anywhere in the US arewelcome to apply. The salary range for this position isbetween $170,000 and $220,000 and individual pay is determined by job-related skills,experience, and relevant education or training. PHC offers a comprehensive benefits packageincluding medical, dental and vision insurance, wellbeing offerings, 401K, unlimited PTO, paidholidays, and a work from home stipend.
