About You

Product & Architecture Leadership

Partners closely with Product, Design, and other engineers to translate ambiguous ideas into actionable, valuable solutions.
Shapes technical direction early in the discovery process, evaluating multiple approaches and trade-offs.
Regularly authors technical approach documents for complex initiatives, aligning architecture with business goals.
Ensures architecture decisions balance user needs, speed of delivery, and long-term maintainability.

Technical Excellence

Designs and implements well-structured, maintainable code in Python/Django and React with minimal guidance.
Builds robust APIs and UIs that meet scalability, performance, and security standards.
Experienced in high domain complexity systems — e.g., financial ledgers, multi-system data syncs, rules/decisioning engines — with the ability to identify edge cases and ensure correctness.
Uses appropriate design patterns and abstractions to reduce complexity without over-engineering.
Writes automated tests at the right level (unit, integration, E2E) and maintains high coverage.

Ownership, Initiative & Problem Solving

Operates with a high degree of self-direction, moving projects forward without needing detailed instructions.
Anticipates edge cases and proactively addresses technical debt.
Unblocks themselves and others through research, experimentation, and creative solutions.
Champions improvements in product and engineering practices.

Collaboration & Mentorship

Facilitates cross-functional alignment during the design phase, ensuring engineering considerations are represented.
Reviews code for clarity, maintainability, and adherence to standards.
Mentors mid-level and senior engineers through pairing, feedback, and technical guidance.
Communicates progress, risks, and decisions clearly across teams.

Execution & Impact

Consistently delivers on time with work that meets defined acceptance criteria.
Improves team efficiency by suggesting and implementing process or tooling enhancements.
Identifies opportunities to improve system stability, performance, or developer experience.
Contributes to documentation and runbooks that support smooth onboarding and maintenance.

Requirements

5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including full stack development.
Proven experience shaping product direction and technical approach from early idea to delivery.
Proficiency in Python/Django, PostgreSQL, and React/TypeScript.
Strong system design skills, including scalability, performance, and security considerations.
Experience working on high domain complexity systems such as financial ledgers, multi-system data syncs, rules/decisioning engines, or similarly complex architectures.
Comfortable with cloud-based environments (AWS preferred) and CI/CD workflows.
Demonstrated alignment with Benepassʼs engineering values and collaborative culture.
